2017-'18 Waterfowl Season

Mikido. Do you do a lot of sea duck hunting?

 

Hey everybody. I'm wanting to do a duck hunting trip this year somewhere. I wanted to do a guided sea duck trip and I still may if I can get the people together to go. But if not where would be a good place to do a diy diver hunt. I have close to 80-100 decoys that I can set as deep as 40'. My boat is a 17' long 50" wide flat bottom with a 75hp outboard. Any help would be appreciated!

 

Duck season is over bro.

Only thing left is goose conservation seasons (snow geese)

I may look into that. Just not sure if my boat is safe enough for that big of water. Unless they have back water to get into.

 

Finished up my first doz bluebills, really happy with the way they turned out.

Not specifically target, but I do come accross them. I hunt in tidal marsh bays that host mostly Brant, blacks, mallards, bluebills....I do see scoters and squaws here and there.

I've never hunted out in open water.

Bring a lot of shells!

Eastern shore of MD is a hotspot for seaducks. A lot of outfitters there.

We use Cape Cod Sea Duck, LLC. We go out with Sam when we go. Very reasonable rates, though we didn't go in 2017 (snowed in) - in 2016 we were limited out by 8am. They have a website - capecodseaduckhunts.com - they'll list all the info you're looking for.

This was the last year we went - four man limit.

 

Layout blinds on the beach....very cool. You had a dog yes?

That's ok don't worry about it. I understand. That is a very cool hunt. Do you only kill riders or did you kill other species as well?

 

No, no dog. Sam, the guide was out on the water in his boat. He'd come in to gather after we shot.

Dwb, we shot eiders, an old squall, bufflehead and one I'm forgetting. But eiders were definitely the bird of the hunt.

ETA; the bird I was missing - scoters...not sure on spelling.

 

How where the decoys set? Long lines parallel or perpendicular to the
Beach?
