Right here would have been a perfect broadside shot on that buck if I was only in that stand. 20171114_202753.jpg

Back to work tonight. Possibly looking to get back in the stand Thursday and Friday evenings.

No hunting this evening. Friday evening looks good. Saturday looks like a wash, heavy rains and high winds. May not be til Monday after that.

This whole work thing is killing me. All I can think of is the weather wind and stand locations that a huge buck is standing at right now. I know he's there because I am not. Lol.

Anyone joining Shawn in the woods tomorrow?

I'm headed to deer camp with my son. Pretty sure he hasn't slept in a couple days... pretty high anticipation.

Hey guys sorry I haven't been on much. Between work and truck shopping and scouting haven't had much time. I'm so used to mule deer country this whitetail hunting is giving me a headache. Lol. Had a few spot I went an looked at. There were already a few cars parked where I would be walking in at. Just got to work for the next two weeks. Hopefully when I get back home I can make something happen. Congrats to everyone who has had success so far and good luck to those that are still chasing.

Didn't see a thing tonight. Checked camera and the one new buck showed up in the middle of the day Wednesday and also Thursday evening. Both times could have shot him if I was there. Next time out now won't be til Monday at the earliest.

Going to sit in the ground blind in the morning. Had buck sign fresh this afternoon and caught a buck on my cam but only a tiny bit of his right side horn in frame. Can't tell crap about size so not sure if it's the monster or a dink. At least he is in the area. We will see in the morning hopefully.

Kill one for the team. A couple bucks and a couple more does and we will be right in the thick of this thing.

Yeah it rained me out and the 30 mph wind was no good either. It is still very windy here. I'll try again tomorrow morning since it is supposed to be nice. Clear cold and 5 mph NW wind is better.

WI gun season opened on Saturday. Having already shot a deer, I had decided that my son needed to see some deer to observe how they move and what different body language ques mean. So we were setting out to shoot a 2.5 yr old or better buck. The first morning we saw 3 deer right at first light, but after that the action dried up. It was quite windy and as a result there was very little shooting to be heard on neighboring properties. We took a lunch break from 1130-1230 and headed back in. The highlight of the evening sit was a buck fawn that was eating leaves off of a bush bellow our box blind. He fed there for 15 minutes at less than 5 yrds. Providing a good opportunity for him to see how they use their ears and also just how quiet a deer can be on wet leaves. We saw 4 additional doe that evening, but no bucks.

The next morning we went back to the same spot and had deer spotted less than 30 minutes into the sit. First a group of five does came off the far hillside and passed above the stand. They were on high alert and he was able to see how an apple dropping could cause them all to scatter. About 15 min later another doe came down the hill and held up in the brush on the other side of a ravine. She had the buck he shot in tow and they slowly worked their way toward our shooting lane. He was able to reposition, get the gun up well before they made it to the opening. The buck followed the doe through the opening and he made a great shot. The buck fell about 5 yrds from the point of impact. He was beyond excited and has told and retold the story to anyone who would listen many times in the last 24 hrs.

Yesterday afternoon after making it home from camp, he drew a couple pictures to show mom...one was what the shoulder mount should look like and the other was where it should go in his room. How could she say no to that, right? We will be dropping it off at the taxidermist this evening.
