Looking to start getting my own processing equipment. I've used my brother in laws in the past but I hate using other people's equipment.

What I am looking for is recommendations for:

    Grinder/Stuffer
    Jerky Gun
    Slicer - for waterfowl jerky
    Smoker

I've got a food saver which I use for fish fillets, bird breasts and venison steaks but plan to use bags/clips for ground venison.

I have a 3/4 hp LEM grinder. I recommend a 1 hp. What I Do like about my 3/4 hp is it connects to my 50 lb mixer! Which was an awesome upgrade. That mixer works awesome. I also have a 20lb cabelas stuffer with the electric motor attachment which is also a HUGE upgrade. Saves a lot of manual labor. I’m going to get a 1hp grinder this year so I can leave the 3/4 hooked up to the mixer.

I have a 3/4 hp realtree Weston grinder. It was only $100 and is better than the 1/2 hp LEM I bought before it. I don't grind a lot of deer a year. I grind about 4-6 deer a year and 2-4 turkeys a year. It does a great job and would not change anything about it. It also has a reverse on it , it has stuffer tubes, and 2-3 grinding plates with it. Hope that helps.

I second having a dedicated sausage stuffer as opposed to trying to stuff casings using the grinder. You can do it with a grinder but it takes 7 hands and you usually have some causalities!

If you plan on doing a lot of processing I would spend the extra money and get LEM products. I own the 1hp grinder and have a 5lb stuffer. Great products that are built to last.

I have the lower end models from Cabela's. I usually only do one or two deer year. I partially freeze my meat before I grind it. I've had my grinder and slicer for about five years never had a problem with it

I have a 1hp LEM grinder. I have used a few different brands borrowed from friends. Get a 1hp, the extra horsepower is worth the money. LEM is better than other brands I have tried.

Ended up buying a Char Broil electric smoker. Have done a few batches of goose jerky so far and turned out great.

Will be buying a grinder in the next week here. Still can't decided between an LEM or Cabelas.

i was looking at those; i realize you have to take off most of the tendons and silver skin, but it still didnt seem to matter on the cheaper 50-60 dollar grinders i've had in the past; the weston model seem to power through alright?

Mine does great. It has never clogged up. I cut silver skin off anyway. But pork fat, beef fat, turkey or anything. It takes it as fast as I can give it to it.
