It's that time of year again! My mind is wandering from rutting to bucks to giant walleyes and crappies. I actually had a dream I was on Mille Lacs last night. Sounds like there is foot traffic on Red Lake starting this Friday. If the weather stays relatively decent this next week I will likely be up there chasing early walleyes.
3 days of 50+ in the forecast for here next week. Hopefully some more geese and a deer yet before my mind changes to fishing but it won't be long!
I tried ice fishing once about 30 years ago. Sitting out on the lake, my feet getting cold, dangling a line in an 8" hole on several hundred A. of water and making payments on a $20K bass boat in my garage. I then realized there was something wrong with that picture, packed up and left. Haven't set foot on ice over water since. But have to admit that Crappie taste mighty good out of that cold water.
Sold the boat several years ago when the shoulders went bad. Even with a shack would still be stuck over an 8" hole on several hundred A. of water. You know that only 10% of any given body of water holds fish. Take an hour to move the shack 10'. I'll pass. I won't bother your fishing and you won't bother mine. Sounds like a deal to me !!
greatwhitehunter3 - that photo looks a whole lot more comfortable than freezing my butt off on the ice some place.
This!!!!! I’m really hoping to get out this year if we get some good ice! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Friggen love this picture!!!! Would love to live in an area that gets that much ice to be able to do this! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
just got new tip ups and pulled out all the gear for my school's FishEd program. take 20/30 students each year out onto the ice a few times to do some fishing, get some nice Smallies and Northerns everytime! love my job somedays!
grew up ice fishing Dunmore with my grandfather before he stopped traveling up from CT/RI cause of health issues. I take my classes to Deweys Pond in Quechee, VT cause its close and provides them with catches! i hit up north for some small ponds as well and enjoy researching and finding new/secluded areas to ice fish each year to avoid all the people and too see new things.
Oh nice!! I haven't been up there since I was 16 actually. We used to go out from the boat launch, and bang a right, and follow the pennisula's shelf under water to go after Pike. When we first started going we would go way out in the middle....so deep we hardly ever caught anything. It was nearly impossible to keep up with 8 tipupsper man. by the time you got chopping the ice away on the last tip up, you had to start again!
