I have a doe that looks to be sick & has some kind of growth on her neck. She also has a fawn that is much smaller than the others that I’ve seen.

Not the greatest photos but you can see the weird growth that goes all the way around her neck. She’s skin & bones. Ribs & hips protruding but fat belly, kinda like those horrible pics of kids in Africa.

Anyone with thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Considering taking her out early if it’s something that could be contagious. I’ll try to find some other pics. Put one of my better trail cams in this spot to figure this out

I've got a nanny that you can see her ribs too and had very late fawns this year (dropped early Aug). I know mine is just old.

I can't see the growth around her neck well, but it looks like it was something wrapped around her neck.

If you have video or visual of her, I think it is more telling. EHD or CWD or brain worm infected animals will behave noticeably oddly. Most surface/skin disorders aren't good tells of the animals health.

may just be an old nursing doe that needs to catch up on some more nutrition.
pray its nothing to unhealthy, but like said getting a video of her and behaviors could help shine some more light on it as well.

Underweight from a late fawn, and the neck is probably just in an early or late stage of coat changing for the coming winter.

I have a young buck that looked the same way. He was real thin and his coat change on his neck looked very similar to that. Last card pull he looked a little better but I’m still worried about him.

This is the one I’m talking about. This was two months ago. He looks better in more recent pictures. I hope he’s healthy because he might get interesting with age.

That normal. Deer use up their fat reserves in the winter and nursing does are always burning off fat. Most deer look this way until late summer/early fall, I think she’ll be just fine.

He looks very much like my doe. Checked cam yesterday but she looks worse and her fawn is no where to be found. [IMG][IMG]

Two things bother me about this. 1 whatever the thing around her neck is. 2 that her fawn is gone but her belly seems to be getting bigger.
Here’s a typical doe at the same site that also has a fawn.

I think she will be OK. My young buck looks a little better and I suspect he will fill out. He was much thinner than the rest of them too.
