Went in 2013 with the wife. Nine animals in 7 days. Get hunt and enjoyed the super moon on my wife's 50th birthday in Africa. If you're looking for a great PH, talk to Reon with African Barefoot Safari. First class outfitter that will treat you like family.

IMG_0365.JPG IMG_1340.JPG IMG_1332.JPG IMG_1319.JPG IMG_1311.JPG I went two years ago. Five animals in five days. J.P. Kleinhans safaris. They were great! Only down side was getting a kidney stone right before boarding the sixteen hour flight home.

That's awesome! Will this be your first time to Africa and what are you looking at to hunt?

Nothing like it! You only need to come once, then your hooked! Ask the hunters who has flown that 16 hour flight more than a few times!! Am I right?

The whole gamut within reason. Going with another hunting buddy and our wives.

It's going to be great fun, you will see. Especially being able to share this experience with your life partner. What more can you ask for!

How much can a person expect to spend on something like this? I've never priced it before.

It usually depends on how many animals you kill as well as how fancy your accommodations are. One thing that should be considered is the cost of taxidermy. It takes forever to get your trophies home and there is a fee at every turn. That said, It was a blast! If you can go,go.
There also are no guarantees about the political situation in many of the african countries. I think it's one of those things where it pays to do your homework, but the hunting was great. I used a rifle due to very limited time, but a bow hunt would be very challenging and rewarding.

If you are talking about a Sable, it all depends on how big you would like to go...

Besides the flights, its actually reasonable depending on the species you're chasing. But in general you could go over and get a few species for around $10,000. That's about the same price as an alaskan moose hunt. If you're okay with doing two or three European mounts instead of shoulder mounts, it could go down to around $8000. Again, this includes your est. $1400 flight. I'm taking 3 friends from upstate NY in 2020.

Call me crazy but i'd rather go on the moose hunt for 10k. The only issue I have with hunting in Africa is the fact I can't bring the meat back. I know why and I know it still gets used, but I thoroughly enjoy utilizing all the meat from every animal I harvest, and I think every hunter should do so. A hunt in Africa seems like to me to be strictly a trophy hunt.

I looked at a Yukon moose hunt for 14k for just the hunt. We spent 7 days in the bush, 4 days in J-burge, taxidermy and shipping for around 19k. Was a no brainer for me.

I couldn't agree with you more! This wasn't always the case, but yes, unfortunately import of meat from Africa to the USA is now banned. I am from there, so all my meat goes to family, friends and the locals who work on the farm. I use this as trade for my next trip. It is a real pity, but if Africa is already on your radar, this is the only option. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

This goes out to the hunters who has been to Africa to hunt before. What where your first impressions when you got to see the African animals in the blinds/tree stand or which ever way you hunted, for the first time? Does the you tube videos, hunting DVD's etc.. do the animals justice??

My first morning sit was unreal. PH dropped me off and left, my choice. Nothing for the first hour, then Impala started coming in. Warthogs next, waterbucks, kudu cows and zebra. By the second hour, I had 80-90 animals in front of me. Couldn't stand it anymore, I took my impala. The way the animals interact, but are still skidish. Warthogs are the bullies of the bush. Baboons are the hardest animal to draw on and shoot, worse than any turkey. Had to draw in the back corner of the blind, step over to window and shoot quickly.
