You want to make yourself miserable during hunting season? Worry about what everyone else is doing. I used to do it. Now I just focus on what resources I have available and how happy I can be with my family. Not getting myself all worked up over things I cannot control. Makes hunting much better. Simple tip to a better season.
At a pretty young age, I figured out how to do things that make me happy and not worry about what other people are doing. It's all wasted energy and adds unnecessary stress. I'm happy or indifferent for other peoples success, but what they "have" has nothing to do with what I "have". The sooner people figure that out, the sooner they will be able to enjoy what they have.
Concerning ones self about the future of the sport is never a waste of time. If what others are doing has an impact on the future we have to think big picture.
You mean I shouldn't worry about all the guys in Iowa and Illinois who are hunting private leased farms going after giants over their food plots?
Sorry but I can't. I'm too busy trying to decide between which Booner I have tied up behind my house this year. Hopefully I remember to take the collar off for the trophy picture this time.
I agree. We must all enjoy the resources as we see fit and be inclusive. You know, like including those that use crossbows in archery season. Big picture stuff like that. Otherwise, we look like elitist pricks that have an agenda. That never ends well. Good point IO.
I read some stuff on a certain Facebook page regarding the area I hunt here in Indiana. The comment on a post was about how all the deer are starving because there are too many but this "liberal tree hugging town" as he called it won't alow hunting, which is incorrect. I mean, we can't hunt inside the city limits on campus. After reading this Facebook page, I was sure that next year, all the deer would be gone. Well I stepped back and looked at it, these people are 90 miles away and have no idea what's going on in my backyard. Also, it's just 40 acres....I can't save the deer heard in Indiana with 40 acres. Enjoy the hunt.
All good points and worthy of thought but, 99% of us here would LOVE to own a great piece of ground,,plant awesome food plots ect.. All the time hoping the neighbors next door don't shoot the big buck you've been watching for years!

Care to speculate on the reason for the change? As a New yawker, by birth, maybe I just didn't worry much about it. But I also know moving south, getting married, having kids and 'growing up' definately changed a lot of my thinking and priorities.
I've always been good about not stressing over things I can't control. Drives my wife nuts that I don't worry enough I guess. I just don't see the point wasting the time and stress.
You were not clear and were pretty vague as to what you were talking about. I figured you were talking about equipment as that seems to be a consistent point of contention with bowhunters. There are those that are not bowhunters that dont use bowhunting gear yet they want to be considered bowhunters and in some states that sort is impacting the future of bowhunting. Some states (Like WI) got it right so we dont have to worry about such things.
