Coming from a beekeeper, that sounds like a potentially dangerous product. I wonder how long it lasts on cloths?
I am also very interested in a product that does not contain the chemicals used in bug spray, after seeing what it does to plastic I don't like spraying it on my skin.
As long as you're not working with bees on a regular basis, it'll probably be fine. Before I got too enthused about it, I'd want to know what was in it. At one time DDT was also touted as perfectly safe. As far as the plastic goes, UV light will destroy plastic so that's not necessarily a very good measure of risk.
Sure it does, just not to the extent you can see it. Why doesn't deet melt my shoe laces or the tips or the soles?
Never said it ate plastic. Have had bug spray damage a hard hat and my buggs saw goggles. I try to avoid using it.
I suspect that the use of peppermint oil will create problems for deer hunters. I plant peppermint in my vegetable garden to keep the deer away! I actually get to harvest something now!
You said it etched plastic in five minutes...etching requires a chemical reaction that eats away part of the material. Anywho, letting this go officially, lol.
Google image search deet reaction on plastics or syntthetic fabrics. I believe while mayby not etched but defiantly chemically degredated.
Nah that's okay, I don't doubt it has some reaction to some things but I think a lot of that mythos is overblown. The point was that few things are 100% safe. In my case, I can live with deet etching a few sensitive materials easier than I can tolerate an insecticide that may kill my honey bees on contact if I accidentally have some on in the wrong place and time. There's no guarantee that the new lethal stuff won't have a reaction with some materials as well. Just because something says "all natural" doesn't mean squat.
