Do you agree with the recent court case ruling where a girl urged her boyfriend to commit suicide? Going to be sentenced for involuntary manslaughter. Basically the 18 year old kid had some mental health issues and she was being a jerk . Here is a typical text between them...

"Carter: "I thought you wanted to do this. The time is right and you're ready, you just need to do it! You can't keep living this way. You just need to do it like you did last time and not think about it and just do it babe. You can't keep doing this every day."

Now people can be charged with serious violent crimes against a person for just words alone.....

Maybe she should just kill herself and get it over with.

I personally feel what she advised this ex BF to do is disgusting. However, this conviction means everyone who said jump off a bridge to someone who did, then died, is guilty.

Again, we are responsible for our actions alone, not someone else.

Poor lawyers on this one for sure !

Not sure if manslaughter is the proper charge, but if the evidence shows that what was being texted or said was continuous and ongoing, they should be held accountable somehow.

What she did was quite a bit more than some random person yelling "jump!" (Which is a completely douchey thing to do anyhow)

At -some- point we are responsible for the effect our actions have on others, even if the action was speaking or typing.

I agree Christine but she is convicted of a charge that carries up to 20 years. Rough.

I agree, douchey for sure. But unless she assisted physically, not murder in my book.

She was convicted of involuntary manslaughter not murder.

    Involuntary Manslaughter is basically:
Death that was unintentionally caused as the result of the defendants' wanton or reckless conduct

What a nut bag. She needs to be put in a padded room not jail.

She texted him during the suicide process and told him to get back in the car to finish. She deserves what she gets.

I agree 100%, actions have consequences and this generation needs to learn this more than previous.

Her actions led to someones death. Perfectly fine with the charge.

It's a slippery slope, but I agree with the assessment of this case and the charges.

I don't think we truly know all the details so its hard to come to a educated conclusion. Ultimately though at some point people have to be held responsible for themselves. Unless she provided the means I feel that manslaughter is a bit extreme.

Maybe she is a sociopath and in that case probably needs to be contained but manslaughter?

It wasn't murder in anyone's book. But it certainly fits the definition of involuntary manslaughter, which she was guilty of.

    For those of you that don't think she should suffer the consequences;

If someone encouraged your mentally ill neighbor to shoot you or a loved one, would you think that there should be some responsibility on the part of the instigator?

The kid that killed himself had mental issues and someone else encouraged him to take his own life. She got off easy in my mind.
