Has anyone used the carbon speed pro arrows? Thinking about getting some, they said it would cut my weight from 400grn to 305grn. Also said I would gain at least 25fps and still have plenty of kentic energy to pass through a deer. Any thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums

Way to light for my liking. But speed is not considered at all in my bow/arrow choices. Well, I guess it kind of is. I NEVER buy a speed bow because of the harsh draw cycle. I NEVER use an arrow under 7 gpp. I want penetration. Last bow I chrono'd was in about 1980. I was a blazing 188fps - fast for it's day. What poundage do you shoot? Most bow makers require 5 ggp.

Unless you made a mistake on that 305 number, that is only 4.36gpp. That violates every archery warranty as they require 5gpp. I shot a light arrow last year. I think it was 315, but I am only shooting 50 lbs due to an injury. I completely passed through a doe I shot at 15 yards. My arrow was stuck in the ground. But even your bow at 70lbs shooting, really light arrows if you hit bone you will be in trouble.

An arrow that weighs 400 grs going 305 fps has plenty of everything. I don't want "knock down" power, but "pass through" power, which means a good sharp broadhead above all else.
I'm not familiar with the arrows you mentioned but so far I'm happy with the Carbon Express Maxima Blu. Shooting 66#, 30" draw, 100-gr field tip.
shooting a 305 grain arrow that speed is dangerous.. I do use a light set up for my 3D arrows, 380 gr at 27" from my 28" 65# halon x but wouldn't shoot that light at an animal. I run about 500 grains for hunting
Yeah, I changed my mind on them. I got some gold tip hunter arrows, with the lumenok and 125 grain broadheads my weight is 434 grains. Everyone on here said don't go with the light arrows so I didn't. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I shoot Easton Axis 340's that run just under 420gr as a finished hunting arrow at 28.25" for my 29" draw. A couple summers ago my buddy came over with his chrono and wanted to do some testing. He draws 27.25" and wanted me to shoot one of his CE Blue Streak arrows that was barely long enough and about 350gr. My speed immediately boosted about 20fps and was very close to the magic 300fps mark. He was impressed, but I immediately went back to my faithful Axis that have been blowing through deer for many years. I am much more about sound, consistency and accuracy than raw speed.....and that was the LAST time I shot an arrow through a chrono.
You should consider kinetic energy over speed when choosing a hunting arrow. I shoot Easton FMJ 400, and Easton Axis 340, with a 100g Head with 27.5 draw and 65lbs. I have had complete pass throughs from 7-60 yards. Friends don't let friends hunt with Guns! (That includes cross bows)
