Hi all, What type of wraps/vanes are you guys shooting? I'm thinking about rebuilding my arrows and I'm trying to come up with some good ideas for colors/wraps, etc.. Right now I'm thinking about going with 1 white vane, and 2 white tiger with a white wrap. Pics if you can
None, I don't build arrows without wraps anymore...ever. If i ever need to refletch i just remove the wrap, replace with a new one and fletch it right up, no need or no hassle of removing the glue from the shaft. Just an overall benefit IMO, ease of fletching and refletching and better visibility. Also the ability to see what type of hit you made by looking at the blood on the wrap is a plus as well.
^This. Only thing I do different is a plain Jane 4" white wrap. Removing glue from an aluminum shaft is pretty easy, but a carbon it doesn't seem to want.
My wife has a stencil machine where she designs graphics and puts em in frames and such. I had her purchase some white vinyl for me, and that is what I use for wraps now. I just cut the length and width I need and make sure the arrow is clean. I've been shooting my arrows in 3D league for about 8 weeks now. Only one vane was torn off in those 8 weeks.
So these wraps are easily removed just by peeling them off? I do like the white wraps for blood, visability, etc.
I was using white hens and gold cock vanes (Blazer) without wraps. I've since decided to make all vanes the same color. Because I nock index my arrows, having a different color cock is not important to me. If I decide that I want more aesthetic appeal than a solid color, I may use white leopard or rusted flame Blazers, which both have white background. Before I settle on my next set, I'm planning some flight tests with the Bohning Heat and AAE Max Stealth vanes, both of which only come in solids as compared to Blazers. Lastly, i don't use wraps. If I get a pass through, I usually can see the blood type just fine on the shaft or vanes, which is why I prefer vanes with a good bit of white in them. I use lighted nicks for hunting and white nicks for target/3D. I don't mind stripping vanes off my carbon shafts. I use a scouring pad and acetone to clean/prep my arrows prior to fletching them. I started using wraps when I switched from aluminum to carbon shafts and discovered how rotten it was to get the old adhesive off the shaft. Been using Onestringer wraps for the past several years and they are excellent. To remove, I simply run them under hot tap water in the kitchen sink and use a paring knife to easily scrape off the warmed wrap. Then I use Goo-Gone to clean any residual adhesive from the shaft before wiping down with isopropyl alcohol and applying the new wrap. I typically buy 9" wraps in either white or flo yellow, then cut them in half with a paper cutter to double my quantity, as I put them on as 4.5" and fletch with Blazers.
I have been using Onestringer Wraps for about 16 years now. Awesome people with an awesome product. Last years arrows, Onestringer wraps, Q2i Predator vanes (no logo's like Blazers is the only reason I tired them:
If you damage 1 vane you need to replace them all. Lower FOC. $ for the first time and every time you need to replace a vane. Looks mean zero to me. 2 white and 1 flo yel vanes or 2 hot pink 1 flo yel when snow is on the ground for me. When I shot 4 fletch - all white
For me, there's minimal advantage and minimal disadvantage. All things considered, the biggest advantage to wraps is aesthetics. For now, I opted to not use them. It's really splitting hairs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Only issue I've had, and it's happened twice in 6 years...Very cold weather, I had wrap slide around, like the adhesion broke. May be I shot it through my block target too many times & loosened the wrap? But they're so easy to replace, didn't matter.
