How to shoot a back tension/hinge release - YouTube Heres a link a pretty good video,if you need more tips I would try simply googling it or youtubeing it.
its not as hard as most make it out to be.. and some pros even admit to not using back tension and instead rotating their wrist more than using there back.. Shoot at blank bales for a few months without a target until you got it down cold.. than move to shooting at a target.
I recently went to a Stan Element resistance activated release. I've been blank baling for a week. Im trying not to be too anxious about shooting my pins. So far, so good (about 150+ shots in). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Check out the Nock On YouTube channel. Any of the old live feeds or silverback/carter evolution videos should help. He also does live coaching feeds on facebook. Dudley has helped me a lot.
Cm...let me know how that back tension release feels for you. I'm considering one. I want to keep working on my form to make my release rock solid.
Getting a new halon 32 this summer, and have been talked into a carter back tension release. Takes a lot of practice to get used to thats for sure Brad
I've been shooting a back tension release for about 8 months, and I've found that, for me, it helps to relax my index finger just a little as I rotate/pull with the my hand/third finger. When I just thought about rotating my hand/pulling with my third finger, I found that sometimes I would get kind of stuck there waiting for the release to happen with my hand rotated as far as it could comfortably go. For what it's worth, I think my index finger was still holding on too tight. so by also slowly relaxing/slightly releasing my index finger, I could get a more consistent release. I've also perused all the Youtube videos, and I like John Dudley's advice, and man, with a well-tuned bow, the guy can certainly shoot. He takes the time to show you how to do everything. Levi Morgan has some great tips too.
Start following john dudley. Dude is a wealth of knowledge for anything archery. Watch his videos and listen to his podcasts and you can have all the knowledge you could ever want for free. Dude is absolutely killing it.
One thing that most overlook when using a back tension release with newer bows is that you can't activate it like traditional back tension. I just watched a video with Levi Morgan in it that mentioned this same thing. With today's bows, many of which use limb stops, there isn't enough movement to rotate the release like you could with cable stops and especially bows from years ago. So, many of the pro shooters are in fact using a modified back tension method, where you relax your last three fingers, causing the release to slightly rotate in your hand. Just food for thought.
A true tension activated release would not have this problem because no movement is required, only added pressure after reaching full draw. (i.e. Stan Element, Carter Evolution). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Any release, just like different bow brands, will differ in "feel" and effectiveness from one user to another. Best advice is to test some on your own.
Brand new Hoyts have options for Limb or cable Stops which is nice. You can always manipulate this feel slightly by adjusting your let-off. Should do the trick.
You can get some extra cushion on limb stops as well. Back in the early BowTech days we were adding self adhesive felt to the limb where the stops made contact on a Constitution to get a bit of extra cushion on it.
