This brute of a spike was on our lease a couple of years ago that we never got to kill. I still have never seen anything like it. What's the largest spike you have ever killed or seen someone kill. Lets see some pictures of those big spikes. http://
This is the exact reason why in north east Texas we have a buck tag just for a spike. Technically we are suppose to shoot a cull buck like this one but most people end up shooting a young deer instead of one like this. Great looking buck for sure
oh I am in east texas buddy, we got our spike tags too lol... he was an old deer no doubt. I don't think he made it after that season because I think the internet around us would have blown up had someone had killed something like that.
Where I am located in PA, we have point restrictions stating three points "up" excluding the brow tine. Two years ago I had called in one of the biggest bodied bucks I have ever seen and sure enough it was a full basket spike. The spread had to be somewhere in the ball park of 18 inches inside and had solid mass the whole way through the beams. The point restriction that we have I believe is a good thing for the most part because it generally lets the bucks in the area get more mature but in that case it sucks. I passed a big mature 5 year old spike two years ago, and is still a huge regret of mine! I was on a local bowhunting forum the following week asking about him and someone shared this pic. It's not the same deer as the one I had the encounter with, but I feel very strongly it may be his offspring....if not it's just some freak coincidence that a younger deer in the town over looks almost identical to him, other than the split on his right side.
It's deer lIke yours and the one we had that if you kill one it's going to bring a lot of attention. Are you on a lease or public land?
No pictures but we had a huge spike behind the barn for three years. A neighbor shot him and his spikes measured 17" and he weighed in field dressed at 180 pounds. Warden also thought that he was just an old buck going downhill but we knew that he had always been a spike.
for sure! at the time I was on a lease, lost it though so no telling on how he is doing or if he's even alive still....sure would love another crack at him if he's still kicken though lol. When I told the farmer the story of what happened he knew right away of the deer obviously and told me he had missed him twice in the previous 3 years before i passed him. Still makes me sick!
I am going to try and dig up another picture of him, but what do yall think he measures in height? he was a pretty big deer body wise granted the pic is zoomed in.
14"ish on both sides on public land on my last available afternoon (rifle season) in 2007(?). That deer almost killed me. Shot him deep in a swamp and hauling him out I got stuck in crotch-deep muck. Lucky I was just w/in range of a tree to loop the drag rope around and haul my butt out. Took me almost an hour to get free. Skull cap is at my dads I'll take a pic this weekend.
Picture is from 2011. He was still alive as of a couple weeks ago. Has had just a goofy messed up rack every year.
According to the rules on most hunt clubs around here those spikes will never get killed. Rules are 4 points on one side and 15 inches wide or spread in excess of 17. I have seen some big bodied spikes but nothing with head gear like whats up top. I'd shoot those in a heartbeat and pay the fine
I killed an 18 inch wide 4 pointer once. He didn't have any points on the left side. Just one big spike. I'll have to dig for the pic.
That spike in the top pic is awesome! The other buck is cool I would love to kill a freak spike like that. Very unique and mature! I love giant 4 point and 6 points too.
