I have an open spot for our Iowa muzzleloader hunt in 2018. We hunt with Wicked Whitetail Outdoors in zone 4 and the cost is $2700 for a 6 day hunt. It includes food and lodging and we eat damn good. They do not take very many hunters for an outfitter especially for the amount of land they have. You would need to get a preference point this spring and put in for the tag in 2018 and send a $500 deposit by February of 2017 and the rest of the payment when we hunt 2018. We are going to hunt the first week December 26-31 2018. I have been there 3 times with a total of 11 hunts between everyone. We have killed 8 bucks, one miss of a 160" buck that one of my friends killed the following year during bow season and 2 guys passed this year on 150" bucks because they said before they got there they were going to shoot a gross Boone or nothing. Success rate of almost 73% and 100% opportunity rate. I am switching from second shotgun to first muzzleloader because I want to get better odds of cold weather. There are nice boxes on towers on food sources. They do not let 3 year olds to be shot so we are hunting mature bucks. If you have to shoot a deer you get a doe tag so you could always fill that. This is not a hunt for the guys who on the last day will kill any buck no matter the size because they have to bring home a buck. If you have any questions you can ask here or send me a pm. I will post the bucks we have shot below. The Iowa tag with preference point is around $600.
I'm seriously trying to figure out a way to justify this some year, your trip always makes me salivate with what it has produced! Someone pounce on this opportunity!
As a Missouri resident hunter, I hate my state some times. $600 for a tag and only a chance to hunter every 2 or 3 years for an out of state hunter has made Iowa one of the benchmark states to hunt. Missouri could be every bit as good as Iowa as we have every bit as good of habitat, we just don't have the right regulations. I'd love to be able to make this trip a reality one of these days, but it's going to have to wait a few years most likely.
For a 6 day hunt it is definitely a bargain. Thanks for sharing the information. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I know that you have to plan a long time in advance to get such a choice spot but I really don't know where I'll be or what I'll have hanging in '18. I sure would like to though. Sounds and looks amazing!
They give me a chance to sell the spots for the week before they do it. There won't be any other spots sold. There have been quite a few here say they were interested in going so I just wanted to let them know I had a spot. I only get a few weeks then it is first come first serve. I know where I will be on that day in 2018
Could I bow hunt during that time or is it muzzleloader only? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
As an out of stater that hunts Missouri. I LOVE your regulations. Can't wait to be back next year. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
And that's exactly why we will never produce up to the potential. Not to mention the difficult to secure hunting access as out of starters lease it up at crazy prices. Sent from my LG-H820 using Tapatalk
My buddy has a placed leased up there that is crazy good. My uncle also owns 300 acres on lake of the ozarks. I've always loved hunting that state. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
It's a great state to hunt with superior habitat. I love hunting here as well, I just wish it was managed at least equal to Iowa and Kansas. I honestly think it would be a top 2 or 3 state if managed correctly. Sent from my LG-H820 using Tapatalk
So it would be roughly 3300 for the tag and and the license? Plus travel and snacks? Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
2700 for the hunt, approximately 600 for the points and tag. Figure in travel and gratuities and you have your number ...
Thanks Jimmy, for an outfitted hunt that brings in less than 20% of the hunters most outfitters bring in with the amount of land you can hunt and they charge less than others.
Sounds like a great deal, I would love to go but that may be tough to swing with the will be wife during our first christmas... maybe in 2020 Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Spots are filled for our Muzzleloader hunt 2018. If anyone is interested in a bow hunt there or a different gun hunt let me know and I will do what I can to help.
