very cold today but was fun. we made 4 drives in riverbottoms and passed up several fawns but now with the rivers frozen over, the older deer seemed to just "know" and crossed on ice. seen about 70-80 deer total

We are having a nice warm-up in to the 40's starting today for at least a week. I will definitely be in the tree a few times. I did not even fill my gun tag. I had several opportunities at some nice bucks, but just couldn't drop the hammer with a bow tag still available to me. lol. The deer are really grouped up right now and starting to pound up and down the same trails to food. The hard part now will be getting past 20 to 30 does for the shot at the bucks. Any decent buck with some age to him will be in trouble, as I can still shoot two. So, don't expect a monster for the contest, but we will see.

I had a crazy sit yesterday afternoon. I hunted on a plot that I had not hunted yet this year on a farm where I have never shot a deer since buying it several years ago. I checked the plot the other day and saw that it was getting hit hard. So, I took in a new ladder stand yesterday at about 1 pm and threw it up quick. I was covering a trail leading to the plot and back in the woods just far enough from the plot to watch it without messing it up. I did not even have my release on yet when the first buck came. Over the next 2 1/2 hours I watched a parade of 17 different bucks fill the plot. Not a single doe all evening! I have never seen that before. Unfortunately, not a single mature deer. There were 4 that were likely 3.5 year olds, but even they were only 8 pointers. I may give it one more try there if it gets colder in hopes that the mature deer will get on their feet. (If there are any there). That area was hit really hard with EHD for two years in a row. Looks like it might be a lot of fun there in a couple more years if the deer stay healthy.

Gonna be tough for fletch to bag one sitting in a Santa suit but I still have faith.

Good luck to anyone who still has a tag.......one more should put us in a comfortable spot.

It's been a pleasure guys.....let's bring it home!!

I should be able to get out a few times next week. Season closes January 8th. Down to my last 10 hrs or so of hunting for the year. Good luck Fletch, and good luck to everyone still hunting. We need to put one more down to give us the edge.
