Well I struck out this year. I've only been bowhunting 4 years and until this year had success. Not matter what I did these deer where on edge. Whether or not I drew when I saw them or waiting till they were close. They had me dead to rights. Learned a lot though. Mainly that my gear is way too loud. Good part is I got pictures of a nice 8 point that I'll look for next year. Being my first strike out I can't get over how much it makes me like bowhunting still. I can't wait to practice and work on the things I made mistakes on. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
The kill is NOT the hunt. I can't wait till next year. Already been practicing/shooting in the basement. Tag soup goes really well with bacon!
Welcome to the obsession. You are staying positive about it and that is what really matters most. Its not the kill that keeps us coming back its the pursuit. Good thing you learned a lot and have your sights set on a target for next year. You will be ready for next year.
It's not the destination but the journey that brings to most satisfaction ! If we only lived for the kill most would have quit long ago. I enjoy every second I spend in the woods with nature. We see and experience new sights and sounds with every sit ! You'll await next season with the anticipation of a child for Christmas Day ! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I've had to eat a tag sandwich the last two years now!...I usually get two a year, I'm seeing the deer and getting my shots just not putting them in the freezer. Some of it is bad luck and some is me being a bit lazy the last two years on scouting, trimming up stand locations and probably not practicing enough with my equipment, after this year I'm definitely motivated for next and will definitely get back to what made me successful in the past! Same for me. 3rd year bow hunting and 1st year I didn't kill a buck with my bow. Just wasn't in the cards this year. Although I got a rifle buck locally and in Saskatchewan so not a complete loss for the season. Use the force Luke and good things will come next year!
I just kept getting busted. Had an absolute blast. Had a fawn hang out for a long time on opening day but didn't want to take it. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I'll add that I've ate tag soup the last 3 years using both my bow and high powered rifle. I've lost count of the number of deer I had in range and could have taken. Just not the right one. Keep at it - That's why we call it hunting and not killing!
