What weight for an arrow do you consider to be heavy ? I shoot a 417 grain arrow but i also shoot a no cam so thinking of lightening up the arrow to about 400 but dont want to lose much penetration i was wondering what you guys thing or what is your magic number ?
I shoot a no cam with a 460 grain arrow. I prefer a heavier arrow regardless of the bow. sent from my mini hand held phone
You can go light till the shaft snaps, it just depends on what your goal is. Each bow will archive it's best accuracy at a certain weight arrow. Just like spine, you have F.O.C. and other concerns in shaft selection. For me 417 grain would be light.
I'm not sure there is a magic number however in my opinion you're right there, 417 gr. is plenty while still giving some decent fps. numbers.
I shoot a 401 grain arrow, Of my last 3 deer, 2 were pass thru's, and the last one penetrated the entire rear ham, went thru the abdomen and poked a hole in the off side chest. Almost a pass thru, 24" of penetration. You are fine with your setup.
Not sure why you'd change. My current arrows are 460gr but I wouldn't hesitate to use 400-417gr. Shot placement is key
I shoot a 440 grain Axis at 298fps. Seems to get the job done and it's more accurate then I can shoot it. I don't see where you would even notice a 17 grain difference, as long as your accurate, I would leave it alone. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
