Early Saturday morning, a buck that I have been watching on trail cam since mid October finally crossed my path after a hot doe.

The weekend prior, I had a very close encounter with this buck. As soon as I got in the stand, no more than two minutes after, a 6pt comes through, 15 minutes later, two does come from behind me and eventually begin feeding right under my tree. I hear another deer coming from in front of me but could only catch parts of him as he was moving through some thick brush. Lone behold, it's the mega giant that I've been after; he turns and is now walking straight towards me. As luck would have it, there is a tree right in between us and all I can see are his horns sticking out from each side. My heart was beating out of my chest. He gets to the tree (the one in between us), stands there giving me no shot for what seemed like an hour and it had to be his sixth sense or something but he calmly turned right around and followed his exact steps back out and away from me until out of sight. Nonetheless, I ended up seeing 8 bucks that morning, two really nice 8pt's but I had my heart stuck on the one that slipped through my fingers.

Fast forward to last weekend - I stayed out way too late Friday night with some boys from the academy, overslept but decided I would go anyway. I finally got in the stand about 7:15am, the same tree that I had the encounter the previous weekend. I thought what the heck, I'm not going to see anything but you never know during the rut. About 7:53am here comes a doe, a few seconds later, a stick breaks behind her and it's HIM. I immediately throw my rifle up, he takes another step in to a small opening and boom. I bet I didn't watch him for 5 seconds before I shot since I first saw him - he wasn't slipping away this time. Shaking uncontrollably, I called my dad and girlfriend and texted all of my buddies. I stayed in the tree only about 30 minutes after the shot as I couldn't take it any more and I had to lay my hands on him. I walked over, found hair and blood and it led me to my biggest buck to date.

Thank you. He looked 25" when he walked out, but was 19 1/4 inside. I hope to put some tape to him tomorrow and get a rough score.
