Great buck. Gives credibility to your hunting skills. New to the area and on public land. What friend or work associate gave you advise on where to hunt.

I did some research online and looked at maps. I had to find someplace reasonably close to where I live

Theres some nice deer in that area. I grew up hunting in Steuben county. Theres some big deer here and there but they don’t get old enough like they do in Ohio

I moved to Oh not too long ago and wasn't able to scout as much as I usually do. I put some cameras out on public land and only got pictures of small bucks. I didn't know this big guy was even around. I hunted once or twice a week throughout September and October on the same public ground. The rut started to heat up at the end of october here in SW OH. it was Halloween afternoon and I had small bucks chasing doe all around me. Finally around 5:00 PM this giant came crashing by chasing a doe. He stopped 20 yards broad side just long enough for me to put an arrow through him. He only ran 10 yards and dropped. I am happy it happened so quick or else I would have got pretty nervous. I barely had time to even look at his rack. It was not an easy task to drag his 250 lb body out of the woods! I hiked in about 1 mile off the main road. I try to avoid people when i’m hunting because of the pressure and safety concerns. Putting in the work to get off the beaten path was well worth it this time around.

Good luck in NY. The deer can get big in NY if they are allowed to get old enough, which sometimes requires a lot of land and good neighbors. I am now a fan of the 1 buck rule for the whole season in OH!

Yes thats the biggest problem in southern ny where i live, the properties are small and surrounded by suburban developements and such. So the orange army slaughters lots of young bucks and cars do their fair share of damage as well. The pressure is extremely heavy, but a few great bucks have been killed by some friends this year alone. Two in the 140's and 1 in the 130's that i know of in my town. Its just hard to find them with all the pressure! Haha best of luck to you in the future!
