Is the rut finished?

I was curious how many folks think that the rut is already done in their area, and what makes you think so? Again, just curious.

 

No I saw a 150+ inch 10 at 9:50 today and a buddy shot a nice 8 following a doe Friday

 

A lot of bucks seemed to be locked up with doe right now, but should start chasing again in a few days

 

Nope, won't be finished until Thanksgiving for the first round and nearly christmas for the second cycle.

First rut is the frenzy, I think it is controlled by the urge as both male and female get the endorphins flowing.

Second rut is due in large part to ratios. Higher doe to buck ratio the better it will be as a few more go unbred.

 

No way in virginia. Shot my buck after he chased a doe away and was making a scrape

 

Watched a nice 8 pt run a doe thru my yard today at 10:45. I was actually on here and saw something out the corner of eye thru the window. He ran right past the house at 15 yards! Its not uncommon for me to see chasing on Thanksgiving, any time in November is good time to hunt.

 

When did it start? Mn way too warm.

 

I would say no, mainly because just now seeing small bucks chasing does but the does don't seem to be there yet. Haven't seen anything locked down. Most I've seen rubbing around are young so I would assume younger doe are the ones that would be coming in heat first. Also buck activity on cams has only picked up last couple weeks so seems to just be ramping up here.

Just heating up in Ohio, had bucks cruisin today mid day. Small 8 chasing a doe around

 

Same in ND. Have seen next to NO evidence that it has started here.

Rut is triggered by photoperiod so at my latitude we're right in the peak of rut when majority of does will be bred over the next week...I have seen young bucks chasing, older bucks may already be locking down does. I certainly haven't seen the scraping activity I've seen in other years, but I don't know how much that means. Just had our Rutting moon full moon tonight...we'll see what that brings
I have a feeling it means I better be in the stand mid day

I hunt both western and eastern OK and things are just starting to get hot on both sides.

 

I never saw any chasing, seeking, anything in the state forest I hunt in PA. Our season ended Saturday in my unit. But I seldom do with the pressure these public areas around here get. We finally saw a mature buck up and checking for does this weekend in Ohio. It has been pretty slow otherwise.

Saw a buck chasing a doe behind the house last night and they're all up and running around

 

If you follow moon phases, the "peak rut" occurs on and around the second full moon in the fall... today and tomorrow. This week should be very good, and a secondary less intense rut should occur about a month from now.

Having said that, I have seen no chasing, seeking, scrapes, rubs etc. at all. in S. Ontario this fall. I also have not been out for over a week... winds have been very strong this fall making effective and safe sits challenging.

I have not seen a buck in the last week if they are rutting they are doing it somewhere else.

 

I've seen very little of typical rut activity in my hunts in NW Missouri, I think its a late rut, so its not getting over, its just ramping up
