Late morning sits

The latest episode of BHOD shows one of the Pro-staffers get in the stand late morning, and shoot a MONSTER. I plan on hunting Tuesday but have a hockey game late Monday night and probably won't be able to crawl out of bed early enough to catch the sun rise. At what time would you feel is a good time to enter the woods after sleeping in? I plan on sitting the rest of the day once I get in

 

As early as you can, this time of year time on the stand is what counts

 

Sunrise and sunset, if your short on time I would take sunrise out of anytime during the day. Sunrise til 10AM is a good bet, they were moving today from sun rise til about 1030ish. All day sits = waste of time. Focus on the most productive times and hunt those times only. Similar to fishing, you would not just show up at anytime and cast for 12 hours straight - pick the most productive time for any given spot and hit that window.

 

If u hunt somewhere near a bedding area the deer move all day. I saw 19 deer yesterday from 930-230. Don't listen to masterhunter

This time of year there is no bad time to be on the stand. I have taken more big bucks in November around noon than dawn or dusk.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have yet to see bucks cruising mid day but this is definitely the time of year for it. I'll be setting up next to a doe bedding area that I know for sure holds a nice herd of does this time of year. Itll be rainy too so my footsteps will be quieted somewhat. I have never hunted this spot before to make sure I had the ideal wind/time/conditions. Tuesday should be it

 

Thats where putting your time comes in, ya gotta figure out when they are moving most in the area your hunting..you could always cheat a bit and use a cam.

 

O master hunter I thought you said cams are a waste of time, lol. Anyways like others have said get out as early as you can and just spend as much time in a stand throughout November.Bucks will cruise all hrs of the day. Good luck!

 

Only a D-bag would give this advice. Wouldn't you think the mods would get rid of this clown for feeding bad info to our beginners?

 

Sleep as long as you need to, but try to get up as early as you can & get in the woods.

 

Its bad info telling people to sit in the woods for 12 hours. Nobody in their right mind does that, when they can pick the best 3-4 hour window and hunt that instead.

 

The more time a hunter spends in the woods the more chances he has of killing a deer. So common sense settles that!

Secondly , the more time a hunter spends in the woods the better his knowledge about deer becomes. Very useful stuff ! Can't dispute that!

 

Sure, you can waste a day doing that, hunt harder and not smarter...Me, I'll pick the best window to hunt, kill a deer and alot less time in the woods and accomplish the same thing.

So help me understand Master, how is learning about your quarry a waste of time. The way to hunt smarter is to learn about the animal I am hunting. Reminds me of the serious trappers who will tell you he is always learning, no matter how long he's been at it. I know one locally who says this at 50 plus years trapping. I suppose it is a good chance you won't be trapping!
