So as I begin tackling this world of filming hunts curious what size SD cards everyone utilizes? I am not talking about needing days of footage as if desired would be downloaded same day as recorded...however despite that how fast do you fill up a card (64GB...).
Depends on how much you film. I just film animal encounters and don't do interviews etc. I have used the same 64 card and bet I haven't put a dent in it. I think you will be fine, save your money until you have the need for one.
Oh I got a 64GB for DSLR....if anything I'll run that in the cam and just a 8 or 16GB in Dslr for b roll..
I have a pair of 64gb Ultra SDXC Sandisk cards in my camera. If I fill one it will automatically flip to the other card. While I do log footage onto my laptop, I don't do it immediately after a hunt so it's nice to have the extra storage. FYI......you can get them on Amazon for around $22 each.
I run 64GB cards. I have a couple 32GB for back up, but rarely use them. UPS just brought me 2 more 64s today. I'm running two cameras and it handles both HD & 4K. So each camera will be running a 64 with a back up if need be.
Geez I just bought the canon Vixia r700 with a 32 GB. should be enough. Hopefully. I will film a total of 10-20 minutes a hunt.
Yeah If I grab one it'll probably be a 128 though and keep the 64 in my DSLR...and have plenty of space in each. Now I may want to look at a 16 or 32 for my Epic Cam which won't be used as much.
My camera has 2 card slots. I have 2x 128gb cards in the camera and have a couple 64gb cards as backups. I have a couple 32's and a 16 for my DSLR. Memory is pretty cheap these days. FWIW, a 128 GB card will record about 160 minutes of my 4K 100mbps out of my main cam.
Yes. 100mbps vs. 35mbps on the Canon G series, almost 3 times more information has to be recorder with my camera. Sent from my LG-H820 using Tapatalk
Makes a guy feel inferior....bahaha. good deal. I got a couple high class 16GB i can carry as backups to the 128 but doubt ever needed.
You can roughly figure that by Sky's posts above....he is quoting 40 minutes could be done on a 32GB in 4K which eats up roughly 3 times the amount of memory than recording in 1080. So I'd assume 80-110 minutes you could get.

Thats about what I get on the Canon G30. I use 64gb and 32gb cards. All should be high speed class 10 cards for best performance.
It really depends on the file format that you record in, The Frame Rate and the Bit Rate that you are recording at. The file format determines how much the video is compressed. The Frame Rate is how many frames per second are recorded and the Bit Rate is number of bits that are recorded per second. For me, I record in 4K at 24 Frames per seconds at 100 Megabits per second. That's a lot more information than needs to be recorder if you are recording 1080 at 24 FPS @ 35 Mbps. One thing people tend to make a mistake on is selecting the correct SD cards. A lot of the newer cam's will require and SDXC card with a U3 rating. That card is fast enough to record the higher bit rate cameras without having issues. Just make sure you check your cameras manual to make sure you are buying a card that is appropriate for your camera.
