Yea, I knew I was torn to pieces over deciding on him. He isn't going to score the best due to very tight spread in his genetics it seems, but he is extremely special being the first deer taken off the new property....I'm not entirely certain I'd have shot if not there....but who knows.

Crazy thing is fellas, I swear he worked a scrape behind me or the yearling did he came in with around 5:30/5:45....then all quiet and I decided (against what I normally preach) to do a soft doe bleat followed by just 2 soft grunts out of the Messenger (one towards south and one back north where I thought a deer was).

Not 5 minutes passed and he came down, tore a scrape up 12 yards away and then left...I'll share the whole thing later, but he tore two scrapes up and was munching on chicory when I shot.

I don't regret him, I just am sad my buck season is over now...maybe I need to pony up and go north to Michigan or south to Kentucky or East to Ohio and try my hand at some DIY public.

Going to score him tonight and then get his head to taxi for professional Euro job. I'd be shocked if he broke 115...but who knows, others keep thinking he is bigger....we will see.

Either way I did get some daytime pics in then for those that didn't see here is a couple:

He has some really cool brow tines. In those pics he looks bigger than 115.

Well fellas had to keep double checking cuz just couldn't believe it but he broke 120.

122 6/8 and his nub on the right beam was just shy at 7/8 of making another inch legally (most people seem to have counted it for contest lol)

Good deal. I can still hit the 170 point club which is typically the goal with a doe or out of state buck now.

Nice job! I'm in stand now sitting over standing corn. I'll be off work from the 31st to the 21st. I'm giving my farm a rest. Be back there Saturday evening.

You'd have been dead on if he not suffered from tiny spread syndrome.

Also our teammate Coheley nearly downed one of his target bucks. Missed clean, and buck didn't get too squirly so he'll be back at him...nearly had more on the board fellas!

Hunted this morning and saw my first buck of the year chasing does around so hopefully it will start heating up!! I also pulled one of my camera cards and had this guy show up! Heading back out for the evening hunt! Good luck to all!

OK guys, I am almost ready to really get after it. I pulled my electric fence, from around my soybean plot, down yesterday after-noon. Forecast for my part of the world is hi's in the lower to mid -80's until Thursday. Cold front moves in bringing some rain and much cooler temps. I pulled cards yesterday and still have several different does and a few bucks hanging around. I start my rutcation next Wednesday, right when the "rut" is supposed to start according to the guys at Deer and Deer Hunting. I am planning on being in tree all day Saturday and Sunday, and then work for 2 days, and then off until the following Wednesday. I have never felt better about my timing. Hope it works out!

Things have been slow here and the weather/life haven't been cooperating too much. I've been out a total of 8 times since season opened Mid-Sept.

...But, that's all going to change now. I should be set to get out a bunch the next few weeks, then I'm off to WI for rifle season.

I finally got a camera out in an area I call the Grassy Bench. One of my last sits I was able to pull the card for the first time and what do you know, Walter ( my #2 hitlister) was on it. Good to finally see a hard horned pic of one of my hitlist bucks!
