Neighbor shot a deer that ran on our property. Sounds like a gut shot. Not sure if he has been searching in our swamp where it ran. He has a guy coming out to look with his dogs to recover it. Will this do a lot of damage to this area for hunting?
If he was a courteous neighbor he would ask before he comes on your property and gives you the opportunity to be there when they search if they enter your property.
It may take a couple days to settle down, but I would not expect it to have any real impact over the long haul. Certainly the good neighborly thing to do though.
Did he get your permission to run a dog on YOUR LAND to find HIS DEER? I wouldn't want a dog running my woods for any reason. I don't know how much it'll hurt your hunting, but I'll bet it won't help it.
He talked to us and always lets us know, great that way. We are all working also other wise he would wait. Im just worried about what it will do to the area. It isn't huge 20-30 acre swamp we own. Will this push deer out of the area to a new property?
No more so than some trespassing coon hunters. That seems to be a common issue around here, they seem to think they can go anywhere their dog goes and since it's at night and most people are in bed the never really get caught doing it.
I really don't think a one time invasion will really bother them. You should be good to go in a few days.
As long as they don't take the dogs and grid search your entire property, I don't think the deer will move out. They move themselves far enough to feel safe, and will return to their normal behavior before long.
If the dogs are leashed and not running around chasing live deer you should be fine in a couple of days or possible even the next morning.
Like others stated as long as you leave it along for a few days you'll be fine. Make sure they don't take a dump on your mineral block and you'll be fine. Good chance the deer moved through your property
Good to see him go all out to recover the deer and you as a landowner allow it. I think any disruption would be short lived and maybe have less impact than a dead deer laying out there and what that would attract.
Once they're finished searching if people will stay out of the area for a week the deer will go back to normal patterns. They're not going to permanently change up their patterns because of a dog and couple of people walking through their area one day. If you or others start putting pressure in there right away it will mess with their patterns.
Every Wednesday it's Men's Night Out next to my 10 acres. One of the guys has a dog who jumps the same deer every time and runs them out . Three bucks , doe and two young'uns. Now three black and tan Walkers on a regular basis I'd be concerned.
Great news, they recovered the buck. Didn't have to do to much searching with the dogs from the sound of it.
That's good to hear!! I read an article awhile back about the impact of coon dogs at night and deer movement. There conclusion was that it had little effect on deer movement and patterns. Like other Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
