I had a great first sit of the season in WI. 23 deer. 7 bucks 1 shooter. I was seeing deer from the time a showed up to when I left. I forgot my Thermacell so the skeeters were terrible.
Awesome dbl lung. Hopefully it's a good sign for things to come. I checked my camera's today. One had 3k pics and not a single buck lol. My main spot had a few shooters show up. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk
Nice guys! Work, rain and an iffy wind kept me from hunting tonight. Did head out to hang a stand in my favorite creek today. Beavers have half the creek backed up, so I had to find a new tree. Curious to see if/how it changes where the deer cross. Looks like tomorrow night with be the first sit. Headed to a nice funnel on in the corner of the new clearcut. Excited to get out, even if it's going to be in the mid 70's.
Love what I'm hearing fellas, looking solid from those already hitting the field. Thumb is back to "functional" and I prepped two stands at one property, pulled cards and had both of the biggest shooters at the new property still moving between 10am and 4pm!!!! LOVE IT! The main big stud place i haven't check cams in a while....gonna go sometime this week to get cams pulled and stands finalized. We will see what is happening come October 1st. Oh and our other side property we have before gun is a riverbottom one and there is a giant buck present...might have to target him the first couple weeks if I hunt.
Half way through the lunch break we got a devastating text. My best friend - brother got a text that his father had coded and they had been doing cpr for 25 minutes. We rushed to the hospital and made it in time. Unfortunately after coding 5 times they were unable to bring him back. I'm glad I was able to spend the day with him and pray he can find peace in the terrible time. Prayers for him please.
Having gone through 3 deaths in the last 7 weeks I can only get a hint of the pain it must be to lose a father. Prayers most definitley!!!
Well quick update here.... IF the season goes as good as the last 2 months of pre-season has gone bad I'm gonna have a buck down the first day! Thumb healed up finally and went out to hang final two stands at the Swamp Property.....right after hanging the first one my tree trimmer spring snapped...making me elect to not go hang the second one knowing I'd have to come back yet another time to trim some last minute lanes, figured do it all in one visit. Plot there though is coming up amazingly well! Except for the landowner's idiot grandkids that just plowed right through the thing and left huge ruts from the gator all along the Western edge. Other than that this is the worst year for mature bucks there ever. Typically just the close proximity to the 200+ acre government owned wetland means some big old bucks....just one and that was over 2 and half months ago. However the property is dealing with so much human intrusion it doesn't shock me. Neighbor's had 5 texas longhorns get loose...so for 3 straight weeks nearly 3 times a week they scoured (dozen people or so) the property looking for them, this included the bedding areas and even the state ground some! Hoping things calm down and come back to normal. Other than that though did have some good news...the best natural pinch point on ANY of my properties is a little 3 acre neighboring piece next to my parent's Homestead land/house. We've hunted it for years but last year they chose not to let us. His wife enjoys feeding the deer and wanted to be able to do that...we'd stopped before Christmas the year prior to that for the same reason. So this year I discussed with them just my father and I hunting from Halloween to Thanksgiving. IT WORKED! This corridor at the base of a 70+ high hill between the hill and houses sees bucks cruise EVERY year. I cannot remember a year in the last 5 the camera 30 yards from the stand hasn't gotten pictures of at least 3 different mature bucks I'd shoot in a year (during killable time). It's fast approaching for us October 1st fellas! Cannot wait!
Well got out this morning to do a couple last minute things, check trail cams, trim shooting lanes, and replace a couple tree stand straps. I am all ready to go for next weekend! Finally had a few really nice bucks show up on camera in the last couple weeks so I am excited about that! Had a spike buck show up on camera that is pretty cool. He isn't an albino but he isn't a pibal either I don't think. He is really light in color and his eyes are black with white circles around them. As soon as I get a chance I will put some pics up.
Well fellas, got Gary finally back on cam and in daylight to boot! Got pictures all over this morning of him, great to see!
