I'm headed back out tonight to sit a observation stand to locate that buck, so probably no shooting tonight. It's in the 90s today, but tomorrow its going to be mid 70s with a rare east wind that the deer love! So depending on what I see tonight, I will be moving in on Thursday to hopefully kill that buck!

Yep, these high temps really suck, but it's supposed to get cooler. Keep us updated on the where about's of the big boy! Good luck.

Broadheads screwed in! Ready to rock and roll Saturday. I've got at least two stands I'd like to get hung in the next couple weeks for later on in the season, while the corn is still standing.
I'm planning on checking cameras Saturday or Sunday if everything works out. Otherwise they can wait til next week. I have two cameras set up within 30 yards of each other in a transition area near the bean field they are hitting the hardest, hoping I cover every deer that walks through there.

    Warm weather+full moon= bad juju.
Didn't realize It was a full moon until I was on my way home this evening. Driving straight east and a huge full moon was just rising over the trees.

As for me, I spent the evening getting all squared away and ready to load to the truck to head up to 'Sconsin tomorrow evening. Gonna fling a few arrows after I get out of work and hit the road!

All bucks have moved on, last 2 sits I have only seen a couple 1 1/2 old bucks. Lost my early season chance, but they will be back!

Crazy how quick that happens. Hopefully they're still on summer patterns in Central Wisconsin! They usually stay on till about first week of October, then POOF.

That't too bad Holt. Can you take does? You can shift your focus til they start to show up again around the rut.

With season starting a little later this year, I don't know how long the summer patterns are going to last. Seems like the deer are making a steady switch to corn and going to the beans at last light or after.

I don't really have either anywhere near me. Alfafa or potatoes far as the eye can see. Field across the way had beans last year but it's so wide open they didn't hit it until after dark and even then not much. The property I hunt is kind of odd... Mostly used as a travel corridor between a few other timbered parcels and then large wide open agg fields. There wasn't much to hold them on our spot except occasionally one or two bucks would lay up and bed for a while. Past couple years we've done a lot of work putting in food plots and waterholes so we are hoping they start using our spot as both a destination and a travel corridor. Otherwise, we would just continue to get a crap load of overnight pictures of monsters as they used our plot as a highway but rarely see anything on the hoof during daylight.

I actually took a shot a shot at a doe last night. It was the last 5 minutes and I had to do some tree stand acrobatic move to get a shot. Must have torqued my bow, because I bounced the arrow across her back. Watched her til after dark and see walked past me in the dark. No blood, had some fat on the arrow. Not how I wanted to start the season.

The deer here have definitely shifted from there summer feeding. So I'm going to start going to the oaks and watch fields from a distance to see if any of those bucks circle back in the next couple weeks.

    At least she wasn't maimed...
Wait, what are the rules on that? Do we have to submit the first deer we shoot to the contest?

No , you only submit harvested deer. But it has to be the first buck you shoot. I get unlimited doe tags and plan to take 3-4 does this year. So as long as I enter 1 of them to contest that's all that counts.
