Hey all. I was just wondering how crowded some of the public hunting areas get throughout the season. Every time I talk to someone about hunting here on campus, they bring up hunting pressure and crowds of people hunting. Is public land worth the shot or should I be making attempts to get on a private plot?

It peaks at times, first day of duck hunting, squirrel hunting, etc. There are spots that you can only park 4-5 trucks so that limits how many people get in to some spots. Other times I haven't seen anyone all year and Boom 3 guys show up with stands and cameras the last month on the season. Scout and have fun! Read through this forum if you haven't, is full of great advice.
Private access isn't easy. Because 90percent of land owners are gonna say no. Public land isn't that bad like what you think. There's still homework to do. It's not like. Oh ur in Iowa ur gonna see a Boone and crocket whitetail Everywhere U go. No just keep scouting the area, place trail cams to know if there's a dandy there. And hunt hard good luck
Yea I am not expecting to see boone and crockets but I was concerned about not seeing deer at all the way everyone talked about public land getting hit hard.
Don't get detracted by pressure...you are young...go deeper into the public where no one else will go...canoe, hike, trudge through swamp or whatever you have to do to get to where all the pressured deer get pushed to and you can have success on public. Alot of times public land hunters might be firearm hunters...bow season might be a little more elbow room
