This guy is getting crucified by the media for doing this. I've seen 4 articles from different so called news organizations just bashing this guy. One even compared him to the dentist that killed Cecil, who was cleared of all wrong doing. I hope he doesn't get in any trouble for this. Hunter who used spear to kill bear could face charges over the brutal slaughter - Mirror Online
I don't have a problem with the bear kill. The thing that people do not get about social media, when you choose to promote yourself on social media you are opening yourself up to what people think of your actions on social media.
My question is: Is Doug okay? I wondered why I hadn't seen Spear on the forum in a few days. I'm also curious exactly how this worked, no disrespect to Doug but he doesn't seem like a particularly useful, nor deadly, weapon.
Cecil the Lion, Harambe the Gorilla, Dave...the Bear? Our media can show cows getting slaughtered in the worst ways possible and people just ignore it, but a bear being hunted by spear....like our ancestors did hundreds of years ago and oh hell no, time for riots!
I do agree you are opening yourself up when posting stuff but when is it ok for the media to distort the story into something that doesn't even resemble what happened just to push their own agenda?
True, people believe what they want to and don't care about the facts as long as their views match the story.
How do they think modern people got here? A long time ago someone killed a bear with a spear... Lured his cave woman back to the cave with a bear chop and threw his spear at her.... BAM, modern people.
If they get mad over trophy photos, what do you think their reaction will be on a spear hunt? No problem with the guy choosing that method, but I don't think the TV hunters are doing the best job of showing our side. I do find it funny to see the against crowd tell a hunter to try and do it with their bare hands. Then when the weapons get closer and closer to bare hands, the against crowd cries torture or question the ethics. Most of this is just mob mentality. Half of them don't even know what they're commenting about.
This is interesting. I've seen the YouTube video a couple times and actually just showed it to a friend of mine last Saturday night. Now the video is off their YouTube channel and I can't find it. The video has been up for quite a while, maybe a year I'd say so not sure what all the hype is now. I think the problem is in the video while tracking the bear, he comes across some intestines on a fallen tree branch and this is why "they" are complaining and writing the stories. The bear only went 60ish yards, according to the video, so the kill seemed ethical to me. People just need something to complain about or they aren't happy. These people just need to put their heads back down in their cubicles and go to work.
Hmm. What a crock. The article says Alberta is planning on banning spear hunting this fall. Which leads me to believe there was was no legislation making it illegal. So they are going to indict him for breaking legislation that doesn't exist? What is so special about this. Tim Wells has been spearing stuff for a few years on television. It will never happen but what if U.S. hunters decided to boycott hunting in Alberta. How much of a financial hit would the providence take? Then maybe they won't be so quick to pass judgement on someone that was there supporting their economy. The media is so twisted that it probably put words in their mouth but really.
Typical liberal tree hugging created crisis/hype. Spear hunting bear, probably not for me, but I didn't see anything in the, article that indicated he did anything particularly wrong...
