I don't know if this was posted anywhere at anytime but the first I heard of it was yesterday. The Native Americans of Wisconsin will be allowed to hunt deer from Nov.1 thru Jan.4 at night. There is no bag limit and they are not required to register what they kill. In my opinion hunting in northern Wisconsin will be changed forever. This has huge ramifications for all that hunt in this area.

I don't think any white deer hunter will support the idea but my advice would be to get over it, the courts reviewed it and came up with the judgement. Many will say it was in the past but think of it this way the natives gave up half the state and simply asked for hunting and gather rights.

Ahh yes shining and the use of thermal imaging while using hand guns and high powered rifles. Just like their ancestors did. I believe they have every right to night hunt as native Americans, but no bag limits?

I suppose you still use a sinew backed long bow and smoothbore musket like your ancestors did?

I'm not from the area at all and have never been there. Are there that many Native Americans in that part of the country? Just curious. Are there that many of them that still hunt deer? LIke I said. I'm not from or never have been that far north in that part of the country. Just asking questions.

were that my hunting area I'd probably be concerned as well. that being said, if my family relied on my hunting for food we'd move to a rural area and have recipes for everything from rat and cat and if necessary...after dark deer. just thankful not to be in that position.

If they don't see it fall they don't look for it either. Why would they? Just shine another deer and squeeze the trigger.

No different that the spearing. Pull up to the boat landing in a Cadillac Escape towing a Lund boat. Tell me you "need to feed my family". Put on a million candlepower headlight, grab a 16' carbon shaft spear and teach your children your heritage. So 2 guys in 1 hour take enough fish to determine that years bag limit for every other person on earth.

Build a fire in the front of your wood boat, use the light to shine the Eyes and spear them with a stick. That is how your ancestors did.

FWIW: In today's times NO ONE should be doing it.

Well I guess you could say that is the upside of surviving genocide and having your land taken. The hunting and gathering in the ceded territory was guaranteed by the treaty. They gave up the land and agreed to move to reservations in areas that were notoriously lacking resources, all they asked was to be able to hunt and gather.

As a person of native ancestry, our ancestors would be sick with the abuse and lack of respect for nature of these people today.

If they go overboard like they did with spear fishing, hunting is going to be destroyed. What they have done goes against most everything real native American's believed in with hunting and fishing.

Sooo if your a native American you can now spotlight on public land during the best part of the deer season in parts of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota?

Good luck with that... I bet this is going to go over great...

Yes they can the treaty did not address advances in technology. Funny how white people get when the Natives actually take what was "given" to them.

Am I the one night hunting with no bag limits and no registration while shining and using heat sensing thermal imaging? Don't tell me its to honor their ancestory and then go shining with an ar15.

It is really nothing more than exercising the rights to hunt according to the treaty, technology has nothing to do with it.

So i think that anyone is allowed to do this is disgusting. No natives alive today had anything ever taken from them. Im from canada and in most cases they are given all kinds of benefits: free education, tax free, free hunting and fishing licences. I could tell you it would be a cold day in hell before anyone would let a law like this pass in my area. And to not have to register a kill to keep track of whats being killed. Being native aside what happens if they devastate the deer population in those areas? So much nowadays is about discrimination and whatnot so stuff like this doesnt help. Start treating everyone equal and make the same rules apply to everyone. Thats my 2 cents....

I would like to live on the reservation your talking about!! Never seen natives on the reservations I been to driving Cadillac's and towing new boats! Most reservations live way below the poverty line there are some that live next to a big population center and have a casino that are doing good, but I'm here to tell you that is about 1% out of all the reservations!!

Don't matter you want natives to use there ancestors hunting methods, why do you think you should be exempt from having to do the same? I hate it when people say that we should have to hunt like are ancestors, why can't we use modern equipment? But it's O.K. for you?

What tribe do you belong to? I'm a proud member of the Yurok and Klamath and I can tell you everything we gather here is used!! Of these people? Not proud of your Native blood?
