Put up 3 new stands yesterday. Forgot how much Life Lines are! Now before all the "price of your life" comments start, I just want to say I'm looking for the same quality line as the HSS life line. I would not substitute for a cheaper rope. Just simply trying to see if anyone out there has found it, where, and how much. Worst case scenario I'll just buy the HSS or muddy line.

I ordered 1/2 inch rope from Cabelas and made my own a few years ago. I think they come in 100' roles so that makes them quite economical to make several. Good luck.

8mm accessory cord is $.55 per foot at REI. coupled with a 7mm cord for a prussik is $.45 per foot. A quality screw gate carabiner is around $10. Price each about the same as HSS or Muddy but much higher quality and lighter overall. You can dye the ropes darker with a pack of RIT dye from walmart in a 5 gallon bucket.

Actual climbing accessory rope is so much better and lighter.

I always make my own very inexpensive and easy to build hardware on the other hand is not cheap and I wouldn't recommend it for ur carabiners etc.

I made myself a lifeline a few years ago and honestly wasn't much less than a HSS. I'd save yourself the hassle and get a HSS.

Yeah, I think I'll do that. As much as I hate Walmart they have a 3 pack online for $89 bucks.

from a liability perspective if you let others use your stand, might be better off with the store bought.

I make most of my own stuff when it comes to this. I make my own "scare strap", the piece that holds you to the tree when you are hanging stands and I'll make these life lines as well. I don't trust China with my life.

I don't remember the name brand but I have used a couple different kinds. One of them I bought at REI. I use 1/2" rope for my safety that goes around the tree when I'm climbing.
