Getting out of stand

I'm sure we've all been there...your sitting in the stand having a good evening hunt...its past legal shooting hours now and you start getting ready to un-knock the arrow and next thing you know you have deer walking in on you. Just curious as to what everyone's tactic is whenever this happens?

Do you sit and wait it out until the deer leave or do you have your own method of getting out without busting up the area?

 

Usually have my wife come walking out with the boys. This is normal for us even when I'm not hunting. The deer just trot off in to the woods. When we are all gone they come back out.

 

I used to have the kids come out to push the deer off, they are off to college now so I have had to come up with new methods. I usually wait till they move off a little and sneak down slow and quiet.

 

Patience.

(Although after and hour and a half............... it gets a little old!)

 

I usually wait them out...if i can. I also have heard of guys using things like a coyotal howlers to starly deer thinking they was spoke away from the noise and not make any association to the stand. How well i works i really don't now.

 

I also wait them out since I am in a travel area. If they do hang in the area I usually talk a bit loud since there is my owners house not far away and they walk back into the woods thinking that they are out in the yard. If they are close to me I just hang tight and quiet.

I try to wait it out but like elkguide said it can get old quick. Then there are the times when you think the coast is clear and you still bust them on the way out. If it's something that is happening a lot, then it's time to relocate the stand.

 

I wait until it is completely dark and I hoot like an owl and shake tree limbs. The deer will run off but not blow out. (You have to sound like a real owl..Practice!) As I am climbing down, I continue to hit the side of my leg imitating a flapping noise until I get to the ground. The deer normally trot out of the area and I leave.

 

I usually wait them out. I'm usually on pins and needles though getting out knowing there moving and there close by.

 

Try and wait them out. If I'm at camp i will get someone to run a quad down an old gas well road. It's far enough away from my stand that I don't think it hurts anything

 

Howl like a yote. Many times they look around and then run off the field to cover.

I actually like to get down before dark in many instances if there are no deer around. No sense in putting myself in the position of having to push the deer out of the area if it is getting late anyway.

 

Bark like a dog. If that doesn't do it I'll toss a water bottle or something out of the stand.

 

I will wait for a bit. If they don't leave, I bark. They run off after a few barks.

 

Are the deer out there small enough that the owl will carry them away?

 

If the bottle don't work there is always the kitchen sink...................

I can't tell you how hard I laughed when I read this one. I could totally picture myself in the stand throwing water bottles and barking at the deer. Of course in my world the deer are wondering WTF is going on over there.

 

I will whistle a few times but not extremely loud. Usually they will run off without blowing.

 

LOL!! I would like to see them carry a 170+ inch buck off!
It works for me. They scatter for a few and trail cam shows them coming back later that night.

 

I kid you not last year I had a bunch of does and young ones in a plot after dark and they just stared at me when I barked and went back to eating. I tossed a pee bottle to the ground with no response. I lowered my gear on the rope with no response. Finally I just stood up and got down.... that got em moving.

Usually plan A and B work like a charm.

 

Wait for them to leave.
