I'm about to buy a used LW Assault and LW sticks. This will be my first treestand. Any tips on what to check over when I go to pick it up?

    Thanks!

Welds & Joints & squeaks, squeaks would be the biggest problem their hard to pinpoint when there is so many of them.

I just sold an Assault and 4 sticks locally. The guy buying was concerned about the steps (he read on AT about steps getting gouged from the stops), that the buttons weren't cracked (he also read on AT they crack) and the straps. You can check the washers under the step bolts, they have been known to crack. But really replacing those would be very inexpensive. These stands are cast so you could check for cracks in the castings, but there not really any weld joins to worry about. I am sure Swamp Stalker wouldn't sell his if it had any of these issues, I am just commenting on what that guy was looking for.

Ya - I'm sure he wouldn't sell something bogus. I was just curious what people look for because I've never bought one. I've hunted homemade and ladder stands. I know LW sells lots of replacement parts too.

Sounds like a pretty shady deal to me...LOL I would ask him to take you to his honey hole on opening morning so you can demo it before you buy...

What's so funny about that? Check the welds, I have seen plenty of them busted before? One reason I won't use them or buy them used...
