So the DEC changed the law no more restrictions on when you can kill bucks. Great job DEC!

I just saw this on Facebook last night and I am incredibly pleased. I hunt in both 9A and 9J, filled my reg season tag in 9J and then saw a slammer two days before season ended at 20 yards and had to watch it walk. I was sick to my stomach...

Problem with NYS is that the deer population stinks and I was able to get 4 tags last year.

    Too many tags given out.

I don't see the population suffering, maybe I'm just fortunate where I hunt. 7r and 7s. Talked to the guy who cuts up deer locally he said he does an average around 500 deer and there is another guy about 9 miles away who probably does more since he has a bigger operation. Then you factor in the people who do there own I think the deer population is fine. Just my 2 cents. That being said haven't got any rear trail cam pics yet.

I don't think the problem necessarily is too many tags given out, rather that we have a gun season that runs from November 19th until December 20th (if you count muzzleloaders from December 12th-20th). That to me is INSANE. Illinois has a broken up gun/muzzleloader season that only consists of 14 total days!!!!! This issue continues to blow my mind as to how stupid it is. It is the same story every year; the orange army comes out and after the first week or so of gun the deer hunting is so much worse because of hunting pressure and the non stop pushing and bang banging going on in the woods. I think that is what everyone should be complaining about here in NY...Just my $.02

I agree with that. Once gun starts my hopes go down the toilet. So much different.

But I'm northern zone and that has never been a good area ever! Tons and tons of work (and a lot of luck) to be "successful" up here.

I just got my license and I'm holding 5 deer tags and 3 turkey tags. Granted I won't full them all but that's crazy in NY.

What do most other states issue??

I agree New York needs to shorten rifle by at least half. Rockland county is only bow obviously due to the amount of houses and they have some monster bucks!

    I have 4 deer, 1 bear and 3 turkey.

Im in 3J but I've only hunted for 2 years. Not really enough to speak of. However, the citiots (idiot+city=citiot) definitely play a factor with their politics, land access and, if they hunt, their gun season. Lots of folks blamin' away at little deer. We have antler restrictions and I approve.

Reducing gun season to 2 weeks would be a great move

Rob and joe do you guys hunt private or public property? People seem to gun hunt hard the first week then I don't see anybody. I hunt 7r and 7s private property but state land is right up the road doesn't seem to get much pressure.

I hunt private and the some stuff that is semi-public at a local preserve. What I've seen and hear from other hunters is that opening weekend of gun season is insane and then most people don't come back.

I'm usually in the woods 4-5days a week

    I'm in 3J and 3C

I'm also scared of public land because I'm so close to NYC. Don't want some citiot killing me

I hunt semi-private in 3M but there is a ton of pressure. Everywhere I go I find treestands.

I think we see a lot of pressure because of the city. Lots of folks come up to hunt
