Hi I have a spot that I really want to hunt but no good spot for a stand or blind what should I do to Hunt this spot?
Your best bet sounds like a ground blind. Find a back way into the spot that is down wind and doesn't cross the deer's travel routes. Cut your way in if you have to. Now is the time (actually spring is the time) to do it because the spot should have settled down by the time the season comes. Pine boughs and limbs will stay green and thick long after they're cut and they'll conceal your movement and cast shadows to break up your outline.
This would be my first suggestion as well. Go in now and cut some shooting lanes so scent and such are washed away with the next rain and forgotten. Use the stuff you cut and down brush to make a natural blind with plenty of time for the deer to get used to it as well. Then mind the wind as hunting from the ground adds another layer of challenge over a treestand.
Agree. If you don't try, you won't know and won't have a chance. What's the worst that could happen? If you get busted by the bucks, at least you tried. I'd rather try and get busted than not hunt it and not have a chance.
Not really because there are trees just small ones an it looks like the rest of the woods. I have a pop up blond and might have found a spot and it would give me a 10 yard shot which for me is fine but im not sure if the spots quite big enough I'm going to try it before making another natural ground blind though. It just easier.
You could try a tripod stand or build a box blind. But you should be bale to put in some sort of natural ground blind. It might be little tight just have to sit really still while in there.
That close I'd go with a natural blind. You're going to need to clear lanes anyways. Or like copper said elevated shooting house.
No don't really have much money to spend need to fix my bow before anything and if worst comes to worst I'll throw a natural ground blind together quick
What makes this spot so perfect? Derr come from and go to somewhere so just move your spots. Now no trees big enough to climb, very thick. If you have found lots of sign there is it a bedding area? if it is n you make a stand in there how will you get out mid morning or get in for an afternoon sit?
Everyone hunts differently but imo the worst that can happen is you can tip the bucks off they're being hunted. Id rather relocate slightly than risk spooking em.
It's not a bedding area the trees are just small and close together. There is a open spot but a put in a poor man's food plot in it and it's small so I don't want to put a blind right in the middle. I get pictures there every day vs. other spots that i've tried putting my camera and I can't simply just go and find a spot better because I'm hunting a total of 7 to 8 acres of woods best spot that i've found and I'm going to use it.
Trees are just to small no more than 6 inches in diameter. I'll figure something out and hopefully get a deer doe or buck big or small I just want to get a second deer at this point. I don't really care much about size yet
ok buddy but I'm gonna give you some advice you'll prob ignore but I'm only trying to help you. 7-8 acres is really small. I hunt some pretty big farms for my area, often over 1000 acres. None of this is brag just hear me out. Even on large pieces like this I rest the whole place for a week to ten days between posts. Wind has got to be perfect both on stand, for the entry n exit. With a small piece you gotta be even more careful. A friend of mine hunts small pieces n does great but only when things are perfect n like once or twice a year he hits em.
