So I went and bought some seed for a food plot. I am planting a 1/2 acre. I mixed this on my own and am curious if this is enough seed or if I should add some. I bought austrian winter peas, oats, a rye mix, and brassicas. I have a total of 32 lbs of seed. Is this enough for a 1/2 acre?

I think it should but it depends on what the mix rate is. I have a bag of winter peas that 11 lbs and supposed to cover 1/4 acre.

I mixed it 14 pounds of peas, 10 pounds of oats, 6 pounds of rye and pea mix, and 2 of rape

    Probably enough.
It's early enough that you could still over-seed in late July if you see that you haven't gotten a good enough coverage.

I would add another 10 lbs of winter peas or 20 lbs of oats if broadcasting.

I calculated what each seed value was worth per acre and added them together to get to a 1/2 acre based on the percentage. I might add 6 lbs of peas but I don't want to over seed it

Are you broadcasting or drilling? But I hear ya. Worst case you can still over seed later like elk guide said.

Cultipacking is a very good asset.

So i went and bought 6 more pounds of winter peas, and also added 1 more pound of rape mix. Hopefully that does the trick.

full seeding rates for peas are 50 lbs per acre
    oats 100 lbs per acre
rye and most grains 100 lbs per acre
brassicas vary from 2-8 lbs per acre.

How you want to formulate is to use 1/3-1/4 of the full rates of each forage. For example if you wanted to mix peas with oats and rye and winfred brassica you'd want to do 15 lbs of peas, 25-30 lbs of each of the grains and 2-3 lbs of brassica.

but the peas, winter wheat, winter rye or winter triticales shouldn't be planted until after august 1.

I think I ended up with a mix of 19 lbs of peas, 10 lbs of oats, 6 lbs of fall, winter spring antler king, and 3 lbs of rape, kale, turnips. I am spraying my plot this weekend and will be seeding in 2-3 weeks depending on the rain forecast. I would love to wait until August but not sure when I will be able to get out there to do it.

I always figure a little more if broadcasting over drilling. Last year we drilled a very similar mix to what you are describing. Things went very well. We did end up broadcasting the smaller seeds then cultipacking.

I always figure a little more if broadcasting over drilling, especially with larger seed. Last year we drilled a very similar mix to what you are describing. Things went very well. We did end up broadcasting the smaller seeds then cultipacking.
