Planning on building a homemade blind.. looking for some input on ideas and different things.. looking to make it 8 by 6. what are people doing for windows and such? I know there are a lot of premade blinds out there.. I have a redneck and plan to get another soon.. but looking for a project and would like to build one.. thanks!
If I get around to building a blind, I am thinking about using these. Hinge Window - deerviewwindows.com But you can probably make them using plexiglass. I think I have a materials list and plans somewhere if you are interested.
I have many and I have found that 4'X4' is the right size for one person. Mine aren't heated, (although I have ever spent some time with a "Little Buddy") and I just use camo cloth to cover the openings. They are all 7' tall with just a slight pitch in the roof which allows for the use of a bow along with a muzzleloader or rifle, depending on the season.
So 4X4 is big enough to draw a bow without bumping anything? I have always been worried about bumping the walls when drawing.

I modified a 4x4 stand a bunch of years ago for bow hunting by setting it up to shoot out the corners. that gives you extra room. About 5 1/2 feet diagonal. 4 feet width would be OK for a single person, 8ft if you plan on having guests. I would make the platform 8 ft deep, but only enclose 6 feet of it. that leaves 2 feet for you to be able to stand on rather than having to climb right from a ladder through the door. My rifle stand just has homemade window panels made from acrylic that are hinged with some wire to fasten them up or down. Nice being able to block the snow and those cold winds
Shot one out of one last year. The only issue I have had is being aware of the ceiling and cam rollover.
I've made 2. Ones a 5x6 and ones a 5.5 x 5.5. For bow hunting I wouldn't go smaller than 5.5x5.5. I can barely pull the bow and hunt out of the 5x6 which I originally designed for gun hunting but have one big window that a bow can shoot out of. I like the Menards dual pane insulated glass hopper windows. I cut the hinges off and remove the weather seal along the edges and it is silent. I tried plexiglass windows but you will find yourself wiping off moisture every couple of minutes if you are using a heater and want all the windows closed. I tried a fan and vent but still had moisture problems. The dual pane windows take about 10 minutes to heat up in the winter with the heater going and than you can see great out of them after wiping them down once.
