Does anyone have their own hunting superstition that they have to do every time they go out? A ritual that has to be done every time or something that has to be worn? I will always have the metal registration band from my first deer on me when I hunt.
I check my pack to make sure that I have an extra release or bullets and I ALWAYS make sure that I have toilet paper with me.
I always carry a camo handkerchief in my pocket. I had it the first time I ever hunted as a young boy and every time since. I don't carry it because of superstition but it's just something I always have with me, not sure why. Oddly enough, any time I hear Ted Nugent's Stranglehold on the radio while driving to a hunt I always end up seeing a lot of deer and even killed one once. But again, I wouldn't call it superstition, just a coincidence. I don't believe in superstition because humans have to associate things and occurrences with other occurrences to find reason so we often create the superstition ourselves. Like for me hearing Ted Nugent's Stranglehold, I rarely listen to the radio to begin with and the station I listen to often plays it, so is it really a superstition? I don't think so. We also only remember the times a superstition is successful. It's our way of reassurance. Aaannd now I'm babbling. Just my opinion.
I have a mismatched pair of hunting socks, one brown and one blue, that I have been wearing ever since I killed my first deer with a recurve. Before a hunt I first put on the blue sock on my right foot followed by the brown on my left. Unfortunately those socks bit the dust recently.
The first time I killed a deer with a bow I was wearing a camo boonie hat my uncle gave me. I wore that hat every bowhunt after for years until it fell apart. I keep saying I'm going to replace it but never have.
Always take my brown flannel with me hunting, seems like I have field dressed all my deer wearing it.
I just ask the Good Lord Above that I make it home safe, have fun and hopefully get a good clean shot at an animal!! If i`m lucky enough to get a shot, even better!
At the shack we have an old cast iron dinner bell. Our tradition/superstition is that if you don't come back and ring the bell once for each point on the buck, you won't get one the following season. Only other tradition is to make sure I empty out before heading out. Having to poop in the woods is the best way to wreck a hunt.
I have a “Lucky Sweatshirt” I used to wear. Believe it or not I’m wearing it under the hoody in this pic. I lent it to my daughter the evening of her first deer. May not get it back??
I have an old camo tshirt that I still fit in since I was a kid. I think my grandpa gave it to me a long time ago. I usually wear it bowhunting when I feel its "time". I haven't killed many deer but I do see good deer when I wear it. All mental, but still my lucky shirt.
I had one time early October I got all the way into my stand and setup. About 10 mins. later my stomach started to rumble. I just couldn't hold it so I left all my gear in the tree including my bow hanging on the hook. I got down and walked about 100-150 yards and did my business. Got back in the tree and I saw 8 different bucks that evening. LOL
Well they probably thought the world was ending from the smell of death flooding 400 square acres...I expect they were scrambling trying to find someplace peaceful for their final moments.
Bull, if I ever catch one of the locals on my trail cameras making love to their bow, I'm posting pics here on the forum and at least three local newspapers.
