I just seemed you are anti P&Y by your sig line (or at least critical of P&Y) With the P&Y headquarters in Chatfield MN, I too thought it odd they are holding the first rendezvous in WI but we are glad they are.
Seems like a reach to come to the conclusion that I am anti P & Y based on my sig line. I actually strongly support P & Y. I read the book written by Young and their opinion was only a starving man should shoot a doe, fawns were forbidden and crossbows are not archery equipment. I hate shooting does, there is no thrill or satisfaction to it for me, I do not believe every deer shot with archery gear is a trophy perhaps if it is your first deer but after that they are just meat.
I agree with you that every deer is equally valuable and that headgear does not place more value on males over females. I know the Pope and Young club considers Does to be deer, they just dont have a classification to recognize females. The killing of does stance from the days of Art Young and Saxton Pope was from a day when deer were few and far between and cant be applied to today's population levels where does are the target gender to regulate the population. As to their stance on Crossbows, that is a club decision and their members want to focus on human powered weaponry (and harvests made with human powered weaponry) rather than stocked, stored energy weapons. I dont fault them for that.
I think you misread or didn't listen you just waited to talk, I do not value does for a sporting venture I loath to shoot them.
Then I misunderstood. Based on that comment I disagree with you wholeheartedly. The sporting venture takes place prior to (and is not actually linked to) any killing. Some of my most enjoyable sporting ventures took place with no killing happening. Some of those sporting ventures ended with the killing of a buck and some with the killing of a doe. Killing does is required to keep the population in check and healthy.
I get one tag a year and I will be damned if I am putting it on a doe. I do not to pretend to be a deer manager, mostly because I realize it is impossible to manage animals outside a fence.
We had a great time at the Pope and Young Rendezvous. It was a joy to spend time with so many quality people.
