Bought some for grass control in the food plot and mixed up a 2 gallon mix last Sunday. I checked it today it it looks like the chemical did nothing to the grass, I know I probably mixed it on the strong side. Couple questions does the chemical work better in higher temps? And if I add oil to the mix what kind of oil works when added with the chemical and water?
Give it at least 2 weeks. First time I sprayed Glysophate and checked in a couple days, I was like wth. Waited for the two weeks most recommended and everything was dead.
It may even take a little longer on grassy weeds. Using a surfactant, like oil, will definitely help.
Looked locally for less than a gallon no dice so I went the e-bay route so by the time the waiting period is up I will have the right mix for the job if I need to reapply.
It takes clethodim quite a long while to make the grass look dead. It'll first start looking sick with purple streaks on the leaves, then brownish and finally straw. Crop oil does make it work a little better.
That's not bad. Whitetail Institute sales a crop oil directly off the website. I've never personally used it, though.
Just tracked my package and my crop oil is waiting at the post office, it arrives right when we start a 4 day period of soaking rain.
Yeah this rain is a real blessing, watered the plot and ended fire season so I can get back to getting stuff done at home.
Last rain we had 3" then got 4 days of field work done and another .4 tenths last night with rain forecasted today and bigger amounts Wednesday. 45 minutes east of here got 3.25" last night. One of those planting seasons.
hope this worked out for you. Celth takes a long time to work and almost always needs a crop oil/surfactant. Be careful on using to much crop oil, that can burn your clover. I have made this mistake before, the clover bounced back but it browned for awhile.
I am going to be patient and see how the first application went, this sunday will be 2 weeks. I won't reapply this weekend have to head out of town but will reapply next week if needed.
Glysophate is roundup weed killer, not clethodim! Clethodim is selective weed killer like 2-4-D... Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Of all the things I have tried or done to the food plot spraying for grass control has been the best thing I have done for the plot. Thick clover and the alfalfa is looking the best it ever has. I also sprayed the grass around the edges of the plot as well.
Yeah it's exactly like Gly except completely different, lol. Gly is a broad spectrum herbicide that kills both broadleaf and grass, 2-4D is a selective herbicide that only kills broadleaf weeds but not grass, Clethodim is the opposite, it's a selective herbicide that only kills grass and not broadleaf weeds.
