I busted out laughing.... Imagine sitting in your stand and looking to your left down the trail and seeing that face coming down the trail towards you. LMAO. Buck on Crack perhaps.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I first looked at the pictures was that this mount looked like a "stuffed" animal, rather than a "live" looking majestic 170" Monarch....

Nice buck though, and also bigger than anything I've ever killed!

I completely agree with you on this one JZ, I'm so particular about who mounts my stuff that I'm constantly checking out people's work to see where my next one is going (likely back to the same guy). I've become an absolute snob about turkey mounts lately and my turkey guy retired!

To respond to your previous statement about why guys sugar coat their thoughts, I think it's just that. The guy paid to have his head set up and got something in return. If he is posting pics of it saying "here it is" than the guy is happy with it and he is the one that has to live with it, pointing out flaws diminishes the value to the owner. I know if I got one back that I wasn't happy with, I wouldn't be posting pics until I found a new cape and a new taxi!

There are a lot of guys that can set up a head, few are true artists. You have to weed them out, and decide how much you want to pay for it. That buck deserved a better job though.

I guess just out of curiosity, what do they do if your would find another taxi? Personally I've never had one mounted, nothing big enough, so don't know much of process. But for instance as far as cape since it's been dried and tanned for that form is the shape pretty much set? Or how does it work? Like said just curious.

I'm 99.9% sure a new cape would have to be used.

man I'd agree with getting him redone when you get a cape that is to awesome of a buck to let look like that. When I started taxidermy I made sure to start with deer it didn't matter if I messed them up or not. I'd make sure my work is flawless before I did someone else's deer for sure.

I agee. I do not do taxidermy but I wouldn't want to be responsible for someone else's trophy unless I was positive I could make them 110% satisfied.

Neither of the two mounts that I have were "big" bucks, but they were both special enough to me to have them mounted. One is from the Edmonton Bow Zone in Alberta, which is my best bow kill to date. The second one is a non-typical that I had several trail cam pics of and ended up killing. So, I don't think size always has to be the reason for mounting a buck. JMO

Awesome buck. Very poor taxidermy job. What a shame that his trophy was basically ruined.

I agree with that and probably misspoke by saying nothing big enough, could add that haven't had anything that have history with or gotten on a trip.
