Got skunked!!! Didn't hear or even see a bird going to try a different spot Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning
Hope everyone has been doing well! In still waiting for my season to start. Not in to too much of a rush. 19 degrees here and snowed the last 8 days.
It's been snowing here for the last 3-4 days as well, headed to Florida in a couple hours for a week in the sun with the family. I'll be back Saturday and in the truck Sunday morning in scouting mode!
Well I could only show my nephew one bird today but we tried. He is 12 this year but hasn't taken his Bow hunter Safety course yet so he was toting a shotgun. We couldn't get a bird to respond to us all afternoon. We just happened to run into the bird that we did, or he was coming to us silently. I roosted the 3 that I was chasing last Sunday and I couldn't get them to shock gobble either. I'm not sure if it's the moon or the weather but they have shut up. Man the birds have went silent on me!!! Season started out great but the last few times I've been out I have seen or even heard a bird!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I heard one gobble as I was packing up yesterday morning and it may have been a laugh more than a gobble. Sent from my miracle handheld communication device.
That's about how I feel lol!!! I think this damn wind has messed with them!!! Seems like it's been 15-25mph almost every damn day
Yeah, I used every stake I had to hold my blind down and was looking for more. Sent from my miracle handheld communication device.
So I went up to check the cams I put out a few weeks ago and do a little scouting for next weekend. While there wasn't much on the cams, I had an interesting morning scouting birds! We didn't have a whole lot of gobbling right away in the morning but about 45 mins after fly down we had a gobble about 150 yds away...we crept closer and got to the edge of a field where we figured the birds would come out, and sure enough 1 tom came out followed by 2 hens and then followed by 2 more toms who really put on a show gobbling back all the time and in full strut. That definitely got the blood pumping and now I can't wait for the season to get here!!
The turkeys here have decided to make it to our place in the evening now. Problem is we can only hunt until 1pm. We'll see what next week brings once the season starts.
