So I have not purchased a flight for myself in a long time. Probably 6-7 years. I fly, but only for work and that gets booked by our travel manager. We are planning on taking a vacation this fall and will be flying. What is the best places to look for cheap flights? I assume there are search functions that search all the airlines and give you the best price? Not sure which ones are the best. Any tips tricks or other ideas for someone that is out of the loop on deal shopping with flights? Assume I know nothing.
I do. But they are scattered on multiple airlines and I probably don't have enough to really make a difference. I fly delta mostly and have about 8,000 miles but they don't have a direct flight to Orlando. I looked and it takes 15,000 miles to get a free flight. I really want a direct flight traveling with kids.
Check Allegiant air. We are flying from Indy to Myrtle Beach the week of July 4th. Most airlines were around $450 for a round-trip ticket, but we got 2 round trip tickets (our baby is free) for $300 total. I always did Priceline in the past. I'm flying for work enough that all of my personal flight is covered with my miles through United. When I was still paying for personal flight though I found that of all the comparison sites were the same exact prices. So I just use Priceline and have had good service and pricing through them.
Just sent my wife and kids away for spring break (I am too busy in the spring). I have always liked Southwest and didn't feel like it was that much more.
One thing I learned is to call the airlines direct and ask them what is the best price they can give you. I found A LOT of times they beat any price I find on the Internet. I use Cheap Air and Travelocity any other time.
In my experience, if you can plan enough ahead, you will not beat the price of going directly through the airline. Might want to check with your travel manager for assistance. When I was traveling for work, the company we used, would book out tickets refundable originally, than would change them to non-refundable when 2 weeks out for the lower non-refundable price.
Just bought my tickets to Seattle last week for July and the cheapest flights + best fly times I found was from Sun Country directly through their site. Co worker always uses Sun Country and has no complaints.
I know at least with Delta they will do things for you over the phone that you can not get done online. Earlier this week I had to reschedule a departure from Charleston from a 5:00 flight to a 7:30. Delta online said it would cost me $125, I called on the phone and they switched me to the later flight and refunded me $89 and kept the milage booster in place.
I go straight to the airlines site but here's the catch if you leave the site and come back the fares usually go up. Clear your cookies then go back. If you fly out of Milwaukee just to to Mitchell Fields web site and hit the links.
Taking a vacation in the fall... A deer vacation right???? Fall is for the deer, not vacations! Kidding aside - I've always liked Kayak simply because I don't want to spend the time scouring through numerous airline websites or calling numerous airlines. I would probably ask your travel manager for assistance though.
It depends when the Packers play Jacksonville this year. I know they play them just not sure when. Trying to time it with the packer game there so we can take the family to a game. That is the goal at least.
