currently working as a travel RN, and recently found out I got accepted into anesthesia school which I'll start in august.
I'm a medical Coder specializing in emergency medicine. It used to be kind of interesting but now with all the government mandates and constantly changing requirements, it's becoming tiresome. For instance, they just got rid of the 13,000 codes we used to use and now we have 68,000 completely new and annoying codes to use. However, if you are struck by a turtle...there's now a code for that. The giant upside of my job is that I work from home, or wherever I have an Internet connection.

I took lessons from Chuck Norris, when I do pushups, I'm actually pushing the earth down. Don't believe me...you wanna bet. Norris also taught me well enough that I don't need bridges, when I walk up to a ravine, it actually bends upward so I can just walk under.

Yep ICD 10. I've been a Coder for 20 years now. I had all the relevant codes memorized. Now, they change them all up and it's tough on my old brain. Lol Plus, we now have all the PQRS codes to deal with too. Does the patient have an intial BP Reading >120/80? OMG, the ER doc better counsel them on diet and lifestyle changes AND make sure that counseling is well documented. It's the Emergency Department for crying out loud. 80% of the people will have an elevated BP reading. They don't need dietary guidelines. .. they just need that piece of rebar pulled out of their thigh, that laceration repaired or otherwise just stop being sick and/or in pain. Heck the people with the <120/80 BP are often the ones you really have worry about. Or the central line placements... did the doc wash his hands appropriately before? Was a sterile full-body drape used? Is it all properly documented? Again, if you're sick enough to need a CVC in the ED, there isn't enough time for the doc to do all the 'maximum sterile barrier techniques', much less document it all. All this stuff does is add to your wait times and cost more money. Rant over. :D
