I was doing some research and wondering if you guys have any tips on fletching your own arrows. I also wondered if I should have a straight left or right helical clamp I have a whisker biscuit for a rest if that is a factor.
Exactly what Stubert said above. If you use a whisker biscuit then do a straight fletch or you can get away with a slight offset. I use a drop away and just got myself the Arizona EZ Fletch Mini which puts a strong right helical on it. The tool works great other that cleaning it. I think Arizona makes other models that will put a straight fletch on as well. I got so sick of paying a proshop to fletch my arrows. The amount of money you spend a couple times I could have just spend on a fletcher myself and do it on my own. Its fun doing it yourself as well.
easy way to clean it is soak it in a mason jar of acetone. takes all the glue off easiest way i have found.
NAP Quickfletch is the way to go. Get the ones with blazers. I shoot a whisker biscuit as well. The blazers tend to hold up better than typical fletching.
I fletch my own with a cheapo bohning jig, works great! I have an Octane Hostage rest so I like to shooting them with helical.
I do this /\/\ as well. I do it to prevent damage in case I miss the"sweet" part of the target and the arrow goes too far through. I use the Bitzenburger with left helical. Works great.
if you just want to fletch one type (straight, right or left offset or helical, an Arizona EZ Fletch is excellent. Used one for about 30 years when I used whisker biscuit and does a great job, easy to use, and gives one the great satisfaction of fletching their own arrows. If you just want to get arrows refletched and are not looking to get more involved in preparing your equipment, then NAP shrink on fletching will do a quick effective job. Either will free you from the bonds and cost of having the shop do it.
on the Arizona EZ fletch? I wasn't talking about the arrow that i just lightly wipe off with alcohol or acetone to remove oil and i havent had any come off yet.
