Hi Guys, I've been building my own arrows recently, and I went with axis which is a 5mm diameter arrow. This is much smaller than I've used compared to my other arrows. I looked all over the internet but was unsuccessful. The field tips I have are not flush with these arrows. I know that shooting em in a target they will be a pain to pull out. Do they make field tips that would work better for small diameter arrows?
I thought there was, is there a way of knowing which size I need? I was thinking about going to the archery shop, I bet they could help me.
Yea they usually have a ton of them. not sure on the sizing of them but if they don't have them then I'd be surprised.
If I am not mistaken you will need the Easton deep six field points. They should fit the thread of the small diameter arrows.
They make several different diameters by 64" of an inch. Grunst should have what you need. Or measure the outside of the shaft and find them online. Quick google search found this chart: http://www.cabelas.com/assets/product_files/pdf/field_point_sizing_chart.pdf I looked at Easton's website. They have point diameter by spine. Axis - 17/64" or 9/32" AND I prefer Saunders Combo points. They are straight and consistent. You would be surprised on how many FP do not spin true and vary in weight. I had a dozen off brand 100gr that were 87-115gr....from the same package. About 1/2 wobbled. Only Saunders for me. More good stuff at Saunders website. https://www.sausa.com/points-new.php
If you have the standard Axis using the hit insert you need the 17/64. I am using 9/32 Easy pull for 17/64" - 100GR
Hehe I just switched over to them this year. Using the 50 grain brass inserts for a little more FOC and weight. This combo got me the eight and length I wanted. We will see how they hold up.
How does that work with brass inserts? You install them before you put in the inserts, or are they actually a heavier insert?
it's literally a brass insert...they have a break off section on them as well in case you were looking for more than the 50 grains. The break off end allows you to have either a 75 grain insert or you break it off for the 50 grains. Easton Brass HIT Break-Off Inserts
They are just heavier so if you like to shoot a heavier arrow with high FOC, they would be the ones to go with. If you like the standard weight, the aluminum standard inserts are the way to go.
^this... it's all just preference and what your trying to accomplish in terms of your total arrow weight and FOC
