I love hunting Rochester though. I've got a buddy that farms and all their land is within a mile of the refuge border so as close to the refuge as you can possibly hunt. 4 hunts in a row a couple years ago, we (4 man) were limited out on honkers in less than 10 minutes! Shot a couple Rochester bands through the years as well.

I would never skip out on a Rochester hunt!!

Extreme Southwest MN can be great hunting too but I'm right in the middle where I have to travel 45 minutes in any given direction to get into large concentrations of geese which I normally don't have time to do because of harvest.

Properties here sit right between state waterfowl refuge/hunting areas on rivers, one in MO and one on the other side in KS and about a million acres worth of private marshes within a few miles in every direction. Then we have about 75 acres of water on the ranch that's surrounded by crop fields and about 25 of that is marshes that I drained and let grow up in food over summer then we were fortunate enough that they filled back up and didn't have any hunters on to speak of.

I think I could still go limit out here (if it were legal, lol).

Duck is over here in Indiana (unless one of you don't mind a tag a long, wink wink).
However, i was out looking for geese last night and wow, there were ducks galore. There were only very smalls holes open on the big water and they were completely full. I could have just sat on the hood of my car and limited out on mallards.

So how far is that from where it was shot?

All of my bands but one have been shot in the same location from where it was banded but 3-7 years later. The other one was banded the same place as one of my other ones, but shot about 45 miles NE. They really are a cool trophy for us and tool for biologists.

OK/Sooner great group of birds. I hunt waterfowl in central and SE Oklahoma this has been my worst season in 10 years I just haven't seen any big numbers of ducks plenty of geese but the ducks just didn't show in the usual places. This morning was my best yet got my limit unfortunately they where all gadwall (at this point I'll take what I can get). Normally I get a good mix of mallard, teal, widgeon, divers, even a few pintails, and of course I always see plenty of gadwall. This year 80% of the birds I've seen have been gadwalls I've seen very few mallards and only killed one so far this year.

I hear you! This has by far been my worst year ever. We've finally started to get on them in the last week or so. I live and hunt in far eastern OK. On the ok ark border. We are headed back out in the morning.

OK/SOONER glad to see you guys got on them again. Normally the duck hunting is slowing down this time of year but this year it's just heating up I hope to get out at least one more time before closing day.

Thanks! We had to work for them today! Strong winds and monster waves. Plus birds that are scared of everything. Only one week to go.

I'll get to hunt Wednesday Thursday and sunday. I hope we can get a few more birds before it's over. This year has been bad but the last few weeks has helped us make up alot of ground.

Went out yesterday before work. Birds were using my hot spring as a roosting spot after this big snow storm. Was able to get in there and jump shoot some birds. Dumped 4 geese and 1 drake gadwall
