I scored and entered the little buck I posted up on page 33 back on the 12th. He only gets us about 86" but I still have till 12/31 to get another 50 points. Hope you all have a good CHRISTmas and New Year.

I shot my target buck tonight. Everything was perfect but the shot. Hit him pretty far back, but the arrow looks really good. I'm assuming a liver hit with a clip of one lung, but I'm thinking I may have gotten an artery because that blood we heavy and petty bright. The arrow didn't have any guts on it and it didn't smell. I'm not risking it and am going after him in the morning. Just hope the coyotes don't find him first.

Here's a few more pics from my buck. I haven't had a chance to score him yet, but I'm guessing he should come in 135ish. He carries a lot of mass, so he could come in a little higher even with the broken G2. Regardless of his score, he was a mature and dominant buck. Aside from making a terrible shot, it was an awesome experience to finally get a chance at him. I passed several shot opportunities on some quality bucks, hoping I would get a shot at this buck. The hunt didn't disappoint as he came in ready to tear up my decoy. I was actually doe hunting out of my tower blind. I had 9 does out in the beans when I noticed him step out at the end of the hedge row about 50 yards away. He worked a licking branch then went back down the hedge row a bit. I pulled out the grunt call and gave him two grunts. That was enough he stepped back out on the edge of the field to see who was grunting at him. He saw the decoy, put his head down and started to circle around the decoy. He made it about 10 yards from the decoy and 18 yards from the blind when I let the arrow fly. I made a terrible shot because i rushed it and didn't stop him. He was quartering to me more than I thought. The arrow was way back and just missed the last rib. It exited even farther back. I was instantly sick and said more cuss words than are in most peoples vocabulary. I was hoping for liver but I wasn't sure. I decided to let him sit over night. I was very lucky as my arrow must have clipped a major artery and he was dead less than 100 yards from my blind. Damn coyotes found him over night and took a chunk out of his hind quarter but it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Just entered my buck on the scorecard. Gross score came out to 138 1/8. I have to laugh because this buck wouldn't even make Pope & Young because of the broken G2. He only nets about 120. I have 4 bucks on the wall that score around 120 and this rack just eats them up. As you can tell, I'm not a big fan on net scoring.

SKywalker, no idea how I missed this...great buck, some fantastic mass on that boy. How old do you think he was?

I failed miserably this season. I passed up some shots at does early on when temps were high and that proved to be a poor decision as the rut and late season arrived I couldn't buy a doe within range. Lots of young bucks this year and I passed up a 2.5 year old 8 point Saturday on my last hunt of the season. Gun season filled my freezer so I wasn't looking for meat and he got a pass. The bucks really handed it to me this year. Just when you think you have them figured out, they really can humble a person.

My best guess is 5.5 years old. He didn't really have that sway back and pot belly you get on the older bucks, but he had a really large frame and all the features of a 4.5 year old except for the mass. We just have that many bucks around here carrying that kind of mass. The buck I killed 2 years ago was most likely a 4.5 year old 10pt, scored 148 6/8 and this one looks like twice the mass as that buck, just short a couple of tines. This one would have scored just under 150 as a 9pt if it hadn't broke off the G2.

Trying like heck to get a doe down, but time is limited. Season ends the 3rd. Had 11 within 50 yards the other night but I was pinned down and couldn't get a shot
