This is the 4th season that I have had my Bowtech Assassin...just wondering how soon I should consider replacing the string? I shoot quite a bit in the spring/summer, and some though fall and winter. it still has the original string, and I was just wondering how long some of you let it go? 3 years? 5 years? or is it totally dependent on string wear? Thanks in advance for any tips.
Target shooters 1 to 2 years Hunters 2 to 4 and of course that depends on how bad the fibers get from breaking down. Fibers are only plastics so heat and moisture can cause them to break down. This all depends on how well the string is kept. Wear and rub are the 2 other factors different bows are tough on strings. Hutch
What he said plus Bowtech is known for putting mediocre strings on from the factory. I'd put new threads on soon and see how much better she shoots with a really good set.
Got about 5000 shots through my Strother and at least that many through my Obsession and no stretch or any issues other than finally both getting worn out. BT has just been worse than most from what I have seen.
4 seasons is as long as I'll ever go as long has you take care of your string and wax it when it needs it. I've heard of people going longer but one time I had my string break after I shot. It was right around 4 years If i remember right.
Being a custom string builder I have seen strings that have been on the bow for 5 to 6 years and the customer saying I don't need any they are still good. So we pull them off and I start to show him that they are not safe at all. Quite a different story once they can see all the fraying, creep and serving wear.

I've had nothing but bad luck with Mathews zebra strings. I've had three bows with them and they just dry out so much and so fast that I have to wax almost every day I shoot. I'm going to get a set from hutch soon.
I use the vapor trail strings and cables, they are quality. I would buy from Hutch but I don't do my own bow work so I would feel crappy asking my bow guy to install what I bought elsewhere. I buy new string and cables every other season because I like the performance of a bow with a fresh set.

I tend to replace my strings once a year sometimes more. But that is also because I tend to change bows every year, sometimes more. If I get a used bow I automatically change strings because I do not know the history of that bow. You can't always trust sellers (shocker I know). I had 3 different bows in 2014 and 2 in 2015. I have used Hutch at Bow String Depot since 2013 and have been very pleased every time.
I keep thinking I should replace them. This is my third year with the original strings (Mathew's) - thanks for the info...I'll be looking to replace over winter, too.
I know I would be the exception to the rule here but I just replaced the original string on my bow this year and it was 18-19 years old. I took it in about 8 years ago to be replace and the guy talked me out of it because he said it looked great. He said that I must wax it frequently. I told him that it had never been waxed. I used to shoot a lot in the early days but the last 10 years or so I haven't shot as much as I would like.
I knew nothing about strings, and pretty much still don't. Replaced my stock PSE strings after one season, made one of the biggest differences in my grouping. They are not overly expensive, so why not spend a few bucks to replace every other season. Plus you have to break them in which equals another reason to shoot your bow. Win/Win
