Nothing here, but I'm stuck working this weekend. I'll be back out Monday and Tuesday.

Had a couple small bucks on camera moving in daylight, it looks like were hitting a cold snap here in the eastern nc region, hopefully it kicks off

Sorry alenhard, I just saw that you asked me a question. And I hunt in seven springs right on the Wayne and Lenior county line. It's the only property my wife and i could find to hunt close to home.

Got a spike Tuesday with the rifle, still no signs of the rut. But I found a good scrape line yesterday that I'm going to hunt the rest of the season unless I find something better.
I've still got one buck tag left and a couple of doe tags left, and I'd like to put some more meat in the freezer.

Why did you shoot a spike? And the rut has came and gone peak breeding was last week most does have already came into there cycle, here is the 2 bucks I tagged with my bow this year, [IMG][IMG]
Luckily tagged out this past Saturday before gun season opened, I can't stand rifle season, mainly because majority of the ppl that rifle hunt only rifle hunt an will shoot young deer, I wish NC would pass a law that you can only take a 6 point or bigger, we could grow some really nice deer in NC if ppl would quit shooting year old deer

zjohn14, not everyone cares about antler size or shooting mature deer. I have plenty of small bucks roaming the property I hunt, but I also have a few nice ones as well. I personally choose to pass the small ones, but if someone on the neighboring property feels they want to shoot one I'm fine with that. As long as it makes them happy, who cares.

I shot a spike because I hunt for meat and horns make a mighty thin soup. I'm feeding three families with the deer I kill, and being that I live next to gamelands where hunters shoot anything with antlers I take what I can get.
Matter of fact, I'd much rather kill does for meat than bucks. We're overrun with deer here but can only take does during rifle season during the last week. That's one big reason I've decided to start bow hunting.

I could ask the same question about those deer you killed, second deer you posted was definitely a young deer. You hunt for you and let others hunt for them.

This year is much better than last year. well it was until things got warm and the deer went nocturnal here in Northern Wake/Granville/Franklin. I am more convince now than ever before about how bad EHD was here. I am seeing lots of deer, but almost all look like yearlings. I don't think I've seen a few does and zero bucks I'd age over a year. Harvested one was looking for a buck when things got hot and humid......... Unfortunately looks to be more rain and temps in the 70s next week!!!

Got a handful of mature bucks where I hunt, as well as a few young bucks. Most activity has been at night, but I think this cold front will get them up this weekend.

I am on vacation until the 23rd. I will hunt everyday until the end of the season. I have been getting deer on camera, most after sundown. I have been sick with a bad cough and cold since Thanksgiving. Looking forward to getting back in the woods. Good Hunting!!
