Burnt cork (real cork) has carcinogens. I know some will say everything causes cancer, but to me it's not worth the risk to be cheap and save a few cents.
Sorry guys and go ahead and hound me if you want. The idea of face camo/paint is to make your 3D face look 2D, if that makes sense. Dark colors go on the high points; bridge of nose, cheek bones, forehead. Light colors go on the low points; eye sockets, under your nose/upper lip area, under you chin and neck. Now I don't work for Realtree or Mossy Oak but I was in the Army for 6 years and this is what they taught me. Putting a few lines are your face will add a bit of contrast, but I resolve the entire problem by wearing a baclava. Just my 2 cents.

I have wore it before.. I dont know what brands, whatever you can buy at your local whatever store... I always wondered about the smell? I think it smells strong and always wondered if the deer notice the smell as well. I guess prob not as tons of ppl wear it but it smells funky to me.
THIS^ I always learn something new on BH.com forums. never thought about using kids Halloween paint until I read this, went to Target and got a large tube of it for $1.00 used it this morning, worked great and it washed right off after, no more wasting money on "high end" facepaint... thanks for the tip!
I use the compact. I found it very frustrating years ago trying to get it off, so I had the wife buy some cheat makeup removal wipes. It now come off extremely easy. No hard rubbing or washing with soap. Can get travel packs of 10 to put in your truck and the larger count for the house. Cheap solution that works well.
I use carbomask and I bet it will last you at least three seasons if you don't lose it. Having said that, I find it comes off a little too easy.
I've broken off pieces of charred wood from a fire. It's activated carbon, I believe. I rub it on my face and hands. Works great washes off easy and helps with your stank.
I use the same face paint compact w/ mirror that I used in the military. But more specifically, I wanted to address something I've always pondered about. I put on a full face of makeup the way I was trained in the military. Specifically making shadowed areas lighter, and light areas darker while mixing it up randomly to avoid that "photo negative" look. Like below: We spend tons of money on our camo gear every year, but I consistently see guys only wearing one stripe or two of black paint w/ 90% of their face untouched. Not to say these dudes don't put deer on the ground, they definitely do (BHOD staff included, you guys put me to shame). But if all my face needed in order to be properly camouflaged is a few stripes of black, then why don't I just go spray paint some streets clothes with a few stripes of black paint and save myself a fortune? Opinions? Thoughts? Now if they would just make a Sitka Gear Optifade Elevated face paint kit, I'd be all set.
Being a usmc vet myself,I hear ya. and certainly no disrespect to Gunny Highway but w deer hunting I just use black to break up my facial profile a little. I'm sure going full camo would be more effective to a point but at 0400 I'm just too lazy and at the end of the hunt it's less to clean off lol.
Have never gone the makeup route, and I don't know that I ever will. I buy caps with incorporated camouflage face nets, they seem to work well enough, they even keep the mosquitoes off to a certain extent in the warmer weather. Best part is, no cancer, and no face washing when I'm done. I also won't have to feel like a little girl, busting out the makeup compact and looking at the mirror to make sure my face isn't running down my chin because I got sweaty.
